He said Kerry conceded to soon, the democratic party has a right to ask that every vote be counted and they have not been..Brought up the vote difference in different counties - that the electronic voting machines needed to be examined...spoke about the changes Blackwell brought about (wrong weight paper, changing of districts and rules). Represented himself well I thought.

With Novakula saying stuff like this, Jackson's response is not important.

If he's saying this then he isn't shutting down discussion and that is because somewhere along the line he's acknowleged fraud DID happen. Hmmm, I bet Rove is gonna kick No Fact's ass for letting the whisper campaign get the better of him.

Both of these guys are towing the party line. I mean they asked him why he was contesting the election if Kerry had already conceded...he said, "I was working on voting rights before Kerry even decided to run for president.

Also they said, well if the Repubs didn't contest the election in 1960 when Kennedy beat Nixon by 12,000 votes why do the dems do it now when there is big discrepency? He said well 44 years later we should have the election thing corrected, don't ya think!

64. Unfortunately, even with this our chances can't be good.
I am wondering why Jesse agreed to the following. I cut it from the Yahoo article on Jesse and the recount.Am I wrong , or does it sound like we don't have a bat's chance in hell? 5 to 2 repug?

"An attorney for a political advocacy group on Wednesday plans to file a "contest of election." The request requires a single Supreme Court justice to either let the election stand, declare another winner or throw the whole thing out. The loser can appeal to the full seven-member court, which is dominated by Republicans 5-2.

Jackson said he agreed with the court filing planned by lawyer Cliff Arnebeck, who has represented the Boston-based Alliance for Democracy in other caseoo article on Jesse and the recount!

It is just regarding "contesting" the election not "recounting", right? Well, if the recount shows "problems" that will take the contesting to a whole new level I would think. So not all hope is lost.

OK, you can hate me, and I've only poked around a bit (not in the SC decisions, but in Moyer's bio) and he doesn't seem like a bad guy.

There could be stuff I missed, and he could be a "turd blossom", but remember back when Repugs weren't blood-curdlingly vile? I mean, I always disagreed with them, but until Bush the First, I never thought they were...EVIL.

Let me know if you find anything good...

73. I tried to send you a message but can't so here goes!
the following bothers me. It is true that he seems the least egregious of the lot, but still the money situation is bad and Moyers is not exempt!

Ohio court elections costly

Report blasts secret-donor system

By Carl Weiser
Enquirer Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON - Ohio is the national poster child for supreme court elections dominated by big money and special interests, a coalition of watchdog groups said Thursday.

Winning a seat on the court now costs $1.85 million. More TV ads aired in Ohio in the last supreme court election - 13,105 - than in eight other states combined. About a third of those ads were from groups whose fund-raising is kept secret.

"The extreme amount of big money in this year's judicial elections will only reduce public trust in the judicial system," said Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who joined the groups at a news conference here.

In 2002, two Republicans running in Ohio far out-raised their opponents, outspent them on TV ads, and won their elections. Business groups supplied most of the campaign money for the two winners, Evelyn Stratton and Maureen O'Connor.

"America's supreme court elections could be degenerating into a succession of political auctions fed by big money and led by special interests," said the report from Justice at Stake, a partnership of more than 40 legal and citizen groups. "The 2002 campaign secured Ohio's reputation as a poster child."

Thomas J. Moyer, Ohio Supreme Court chief justice, said the report shows the need for a reform bill making its way through the General Assembly. Passed by the state Senate last week, it would require any group that airs an ad about an Ohio Supreme Court candidate to disclose contributors in the same manner that candidates must make public who has donated to their campaigns.

Donations don't buy or corrupt judges, he said. He has often ruled against his contributors.

But he acknowledged the perception that money influences judges. If the court's decisions are to be respected as fair and unbiased, that perception has to be addressed, he said.

"To me, that's fundamental," Moyer said.

A poll released Thursday found that 72 percent of Americans believed campaign contributions influence judges' decisions. The poll surveyed 1,204 adults in March and had a 2.9-percentage-point margin of error.

Eight in 10 said they supported forcing groups that air TV ads in judicial races to disclose who paid for them.

The report noted that Ohio's high court races now attract fund-raising techniques common to political races, including bundling - multiple contributions from a single industry or interest group delivered en masse to a candidate. It said more than 200 employees of Cincinnati Financial Corp. combined to donate $96,663 to the two Republicans in 2002.

Scott Gilliam, director of government affairs for Cincinnati Insurance, part of Cincinnati Financial, said employees gave without corporate pressure.

"We have many employees who in their daily jobs working for an insurance company in Ohio see the impact the Supreme Court has on our policyholders every day," Gilliam said. "They see the impact of court decisions and many of them chose on their own to become voluntarily involved in those elections."

While donors don't buy decisions, Moyer said, they do support judges who share their philosophies.

The court now has five Republicans and two Democrats. They are endorsed and nominated in partisan primaries but run in the fall on an officially non-partisan ballot. Terms are six years.

Four, including Moyer, are on the ballot this fall. Ohio is one of 29 states that will elect supreme court justices this year.

Ana Radelat of Ganntet News Service contributed to this report.

84. I was at Jesse Jackson's Cincinnati rally this AM and the lawyer
Cliff Arnebeck has been videotaping sworn affidavits in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati. Arnebeck impresses me as someone who know what he is doing. He stated today that they know that votes were shifted from Kerry to Bush in S. Ohio.

65. hastily typed transcript
PB: ty wolf well it took JK about 1 night to decide election irregularities in OH were probably not severe enough to to change the vote count in that state or to give him the presidency. and so he conceded and almost a month later some people are wondering perhaps if JK made a mistake. questioning the results in OH and asking the state Supreme Court to consider setting the results aside. One of the leaders of the effort is my friend Rev JJ he joins us from Philly. good to see you again.

JJ: How are you good..

RN: Rev J I don't know if you noticed JK said that lets put this behind us theres no way we can make up enough votes in OH to carry the state ah you may not have noticed JK was the candidate you weren't the candidate why can't you go with JK on this.

JJ: I fought for the right to vote before JK decided to run for the presidency the principle is bigger than him. The election is not certified. 27 days later the count continues you know before the election even started there were 30000 people they sought to eliminate to say they had the wrong weight of paper. The judge over ruled that then the provisional ballot there were 155000 of them there not yet counted because in the spring of the year if you were in the county you could vote. They shifted it to you could only vote if you were in the precinct in Nov. but since they consolidated the many precincts it lead to much confusion. There are also 92000 unprocessed ballots so 27 days later the process continues JK conceded much to quickly.

PB: but Rev JK did lose OH reportedly by 136482 votes you don't really think there are 136000 more JK votes there do you.

JJ: well there are several things at work here. No 1 Ellen Connally ran for Supreme Ct the same election and in the Cleveland area Couyahoga County JK had 120000 more votes than she had. Down in the area of Butler Claremont and Warren she had 190000 votes more than JK that suggests that something went ah rie. thats what we need to throughly investigations for computer analysts to see if there in fact electronic vote tampering. All we know today is the counting is not over. And why would it be 2 weeks later and you not have a certified election.

RN: Rev J in 1960 election I covered ah the ah they stole the election from Nixon in IL and TX with a difference of less than 12000 votes and they took care of those very nicely but RN never protested R's never protested because in the interest of the country they didn't want to put the country through some thing so you surely don't want a oh ah something that will but some kind of question on whether who won this election when the difference is not 10-12000 votes as PB says 136000 votes.

JJ: Well we should be better 44 years later in the counting of an election. If we can protest an unfair election, a questionable one, in the Ukraine why can we have a good one here in our own country. The point is there are court suites being filled asking all votes to be counted. So far mister RN all ballots have not been counted. 92000 unprocessed ballots have not been counted 155000 prov votes have not yet all been counted. and so to expect all votes to count is a reasonable whether JK wins or loses let the winner win and the loser lose but count all the votes That is a reasonable democratic expectation.

Sorry for not using punctuation but deal with it. :>

77. "John Kerry did lose Ohio REPORTEDLY by 136,482 votes ..."
Smooth move there, JJ. "Reportedly." That's as good as saying, "We don't think it's true."

From reading this transcript, JJ did well. He didn't overstep any bounds, he didn't poke his finger in anyone's chest, he stated the case simply and didn't drag anyone into it or start any altercations.

Thanks for the transcribing!

79. Should Kerry
have the luxury to stay out of it just because its messy? People mobilized for him, donated and voted - can he just decide he wants out and stay away? I have no intention of bashing him at all, but if people's rights have been violated in the process of voting for his candidacy then he has a responsibility.
