DU: Have you e-mailed Sensenbrenner yet?
Randi Rhodes is calling for everyone to email F. James Sensenbrenner, the chairman of the house judiciary committee. He has the power to subpoena the black boxes that hold the votes in the counties in Florida that have all those suspicious votes for Bush and all used optical scanners. These can be read and verified by a human being. Glenda Hood is the only other person that can do this, and she is never gonna do it.

Copy of sample letter is below. She said we should be nice because we are asking for a favor. He is from Wisconsin and may be
fairly reasonable and rational even though he is a Republican.

sensenbrenner@mail.house.gov

Dear Chairman Sensenbrenner:

I am writing to request that as head of the judiciary committee you subpoena some black boxes that contain votes from the
47 Florida counties that have suspicious tallies.

One would be asked to believe that 100% of Republicans, 50% of Democrats, and 100% of Independents all voted for
President Bush, despite exit polls to the contrary. To further arouse suspicion, all these counties used the same optical scanner system.

Perhaps if you would subpoena and examine the votes in some of these counties, you could put to rest the doubts and
suspicions that many Americans harbor about the election. This would serve our country, our democracy, and help heal our great national divide.

Sincerely,

P.S. I filled him in on what happened in Volusia yesterday.

They do check to see if letters are dupes. It's how the EPA can blow off getting 500,00 letters at a time by saying that only 1000 of them were original.

25. Just sent this similar message
Composite of Carolab's and my own form:

Dear Chairman Sensenbrenner:

I am writing to urge you to immediately subpoena all black boxes that contain votes from all counties in swing states that have suspicious tallies.

As you may be aware, there have been numerous documented reports of problems affecting the recent elections. We don't know what the results of an official investigation might be, but it is painfully clear that such an investigation is needed.

Like most of us, I would be vastly relieved if I could be confident that no significant tampering or obstruction occurred.

But the problems and discrepancies appear so serious, that I believe thorough investigation and analysis are necessary (and as soon as possible), both in order to restore public confidence and to assure the future integrity of our election process.

Perhaps if you would subpoena and examine the votes in some of these counties, you could put to rest the doubts and suspicions that many Americans harbor about the election. This would serve our country and our democracy, and help heal our great national divide.

Sincerely,

27. My letter

I am writing to request that as head of the judiciary committee you subpoena some electronic voting machines that contain votes from the 47 Florida counties that have suspicious tallies.

I have seen some very disturbing discrepancies between exit polls and final votes as well as discrepancies between voter registration and final votes. I have no idea as to their validity, but it does not seem right that exit polls in many states were completely accurate, yet in the critical states of Florida and Ohio, they weren't accurate at all.

I think this matter has caused a lot of people to question the Florida results, along with the results in other states. An investigation will hopefully restore some confidence to the citizens regarding our democracy and the outcome of the election.

----------

Now... here's the question.

Republican controlled comittee investigates Republican stolen election.

What do you think the verdict will be?

29. Here's my letter. Sent and kicked.
Dear Sir,

My name is Xxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxx, and I am a 40-year-old seminary student in Denver, Colorado. I am writing to ask that as head of the judiciary committee you subpoena some black boxes that contain votes from the 47 Florida counties that have suspicious tallies.

I have been following the post-election very closely. Chairman Sensenbrenner, I am concerned about the validity of our democracy when private corporations control the voting machines and votes cannot be accounted for because there is no paper trail to audit.

The appearance of tampering or fraud is a problem even if no tampering or fraud actually occurred. People will continually protest elections if there is no way to verify the votes. I think this should be as big a concern for Republicans as well as Democrats because establishing fair, unbiased, and transparent elections will serve to validate elections and result in the country uniting behind the president.

I have a dream that both parties will come together to fix our broken system. To that end, I urge you, again, to use your position as the Chair of the Judiciary Committee to subpena the optical scanners used in the 47 Florida counties in question so that public, independent audits may occur.

Guaranteeing public trust in the democratic process is neither a Democratic nor Republican issue. It is a voting rights issue, and necessary to ensure a healthy and functioning government.

Sincerely,
:kick:

48. This is a HORRIBLE idea
It strikes me as extremely odd that a group of otherwise apparently intelligent people would group-grope into a bad idea like this. Put yourself in Sensenbrenner's shoes:

You get X number of identical emails/letters asking (essentially) for a recount in a Florida county that went with his party, all asking for it to be rechecked in the hope it was a mistake/plot. You think about it...you notice how Spectre is now on the Republican hit list for TALKING about Roe and you do the natural thing: you file it in the round file.

Sorry, but this is a waste of time. It would be far better to be lobbying the two main Dems on the committee to make a stink about it and say they will try to block judiciary nominees until this matter is addressed. The ranking Dem is Conyers, who always likes to grandstand...also...what about Robert Wexler? The Florida dem on the committee?

What about trying to organize a Florida grass-roots campaign to get FLORIDA residents to complain to their reps?

This (along with high-powered lawsuits) is what the Republicans have done for the last 15 years to lead to their majorities...not hopelessly send fruitless letters to people who don't care.

In the end...you know what? It won't affect THIS outcome. BUT, if we are consistent and timely EVERY TIME, eventually it will start to make an impact.

The longest journey begins with a single step...and Dems have a VERY LONG journey before they start to win again.

55. How is this a Republican tactic?
They have learned to do things that have been useful toward their ends (and therefore own the Senate, the House, and Presidency, a bunch of Governorships, and soon - more - of the Supreme Court).

Sometimes hearing that the Emperor Has No Clothes is perceived as a cold splash of water...but that doesn't keep the Emperor warm in the winter.

Do something useful...send your request to the DNC and/or Conyers. But also understand that nothing TODAY will come of it...only over the intervening years will we make slow - but hopefully steady - progress.

Why won't anything happen today?

Well, either there IS a government plot to take over the government in an unfair way, in which case they will not let your letter matter...

or

Not enough psychic mass has been generated to build momentum to swing the pendulum our way. That mass can be built over the next two years if the energy is used in the right way. Otherwise, the Republicans will still have majorities in two years and may stand a chance of even winning the NEXT presidential election. Remember the last 12 years of Republican domination...is that what you want?

54. Fine, go wasteyour time and energy
while Republicans continue to consolidate their majority.

Email campaigns have worked dozens of wonders over the years...oh, wait a second, no they haven't. In fact, they've never once done anything.

If you want to do something, email Conyers or even the DNC, but unfortunately, this is just something that will make you THINK you are doing something when you're not.

Try emailing a plea to Conyers (especially if you're from Michigan) to use his power to do exactly what you are requesting, but emailing or even writing a letter to Sensenbrenner is worse than a waste of time...it is YET ANOTHER EXAMPLE of deceiving ourselves (like the idea that a Mass Dem CAN win the South).

If you want to remain in the trash bin of political power, keep doing what you've always done. But understand that it is nearly the very definition to insanity to keep doing what you'e always done while expecting different results.

It is truly a sad day for the Democratic party.

I'm sure many of you are doing this already, but I find it useful to keep a little word file of my pleas and urgings so I can cobble together chunks of my previous letters and just add a new intro and sentence or two. It's still boilerplate, but it's my boilerplate, so unless Blackwell, the GAO, and my senators are all forwarding my emails to each other (I wish), it still looks unique.

I wonder if we should have the foxes investigating the other foxes that are guarding the hen house (or some such allegory). Whats to keep this from becoming a sham investigation that clears them? Then Repugs can cite it as conclusive evidence that we are all conspiracy kooks. If there is an actual investigation we'll have to keep their feet to the fire.

59. Done: am collecting action info for an Election Theft Action Resource Cent
I have written too and thanks.

It seems to me that there's a need for information that helps us DO something concrete to be compiled in one spot. What a wealth of action info is spread all over DU!

Just a couple of For instances that I have ran into this morning:

There's your sample letter to The House Judiciary.
There are letters to Diebold with already researched info on who to send them to.
A miniposter
and a good deal more.
I have a broadsheet printout/handout ready to post and am looking for the right spot on DU to do so.

There's a good deal more, howver this just occured to me so I'll be going back over the posts going back a week or two and compiling them.
I'll be putting credits and links to the original posts where applicable.

To create a Election Theft Action Resource Center is a preceived need.
It could save time and help make everyone who wishes to join in actions, that much more effective.

So...I have begun to pull it together into one spot. I'll post it when its completed.
