Ohio Provisional Ballots Seem Legitimate

By Mark Williams
The Associated Press

Wednesday 17 November 2004

Columbus, Ohio - The vast majority of provisional ballots cast in Ohio were legitimate, say election officials who are poring over thousands of presidential election ballots. .....

"Some people thought because they had changed their mailing address at the post office, or had changed their utilities, that they had done everything necessary to be eligible to vote," said Nancy Moore, deputy director of the Belmont County Board of Elections. "They still have to change their address at the board of elections. We're not mind readers."

President Bush beat Democrat John Kerry in Ohio by 136,000 votes in unofficial tallies, and Kerry has conceded not enough outstanding votes exist to sway the election his way in the key battleground state.

Of the 11 counties that have completed checking provisional ballots, 81 percent of the ballots are valid, according to an Associated Press survey Monday. Counties that have completed partial tallies also said most of the provisional ballots were being counted.

1. No kidding! Would you stand in line for hours to cast an illegitimate
vote?

3. Not to mention
the reps sent out registered letters to verify addresses and if they didn't get a return receipt, they removed the voter from that address. So I think many people went to vote and were told they were not registered - much to their surprise, because they weren't home when the verification letter came. Well, that's one way to
"legitimately" throw out provisional votes - just remove registered voters from the list. Viola! Like magic, they will be turned down at the polls because they are not on the list, then they will fill out a provisional ballot, which will be thrown out because they show up as not registered. Very clever (sneaky, low, and unethical, but I guess clever). The same strategies were applied in FL and FL had huge numbers of provisionals thrown out.

6. We're not mind readers.... is it poring over or pork-ing over?!?!?!

Yes, overly snippy! The journalism has gone to the dogs, no doubt! I suppose that voters should be "mind readers" to know what rule Blackwell is going to change next for his "pork-ing" agenda.

I say they are "pork-ing" over (versus poring over) just as the Ohio election lawmakers and supervisors have done since day #1 of their planning under Blackwell's :evilfrown: direction...

Definition of "pore": to ponder or meditate on something.

Informal definition of "pork": "Favors given by a government for political reasons..."

Yes, I think they have a typo/misspelling in their pathetic journalism.

7. Yep
The reporters are no longer unbiased or even trying to be and we all suffer. There SHOULD be more reporting on this situation and I'm actually not one of the tin hat conspiracy buffs but it IS a story. I shouldn't have to get my news from a sportscaster.

8. ***NOT SURE if this is true
But someone called an early am Boston talk show to say it's broken about 60-40 for Kerry in the provisionals. But that this may have been caused by Cuyagha being about 1/2 done versus others. Not enough to make any difference but we'll see.
