If * is ahead by a couple of million votes in the total count, and holds a respectable lead in the electoral college, and we try to fight this out in the courts in any meaningful way (like enough to change the result, which would take months), come 2006 we're going to have trouble getting a Democrat elected dogcatcher.

Futile resistance in the face of overwhelming odds (we don't know where we stand odds-wise yet) could have the very real effect of destroying us in the long run.
