Voting machine glitch changes election
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

A recently found computer glitch in the voting machines in Franklin County, Indiana has given a democrat enough votes to bump a republican from victory in a County Commissioner's race.

The glitch in the machines recorded straight Democratic Party votes for Libertarians.

The votes were re-counted last night, by hand.

The company who made the voting machine is also checking into programming of it's equipment in nine other Indiana counties.

1. Are we the only ones who care?
I don't think the media is doing a very good job of covering voter fraud. Nor, is the damn demcratic party doing much to promote it. Are we all alone in this chaos?

7. I sent it to Olbermann
He said he's still taking e-mails while "on vaco".

My question is--can we trust them to "look into the programming" on their other machines?

What will they do--fix it so no other "glitches" can be found?

Can someone track this--someone in Indiana from this board?

15. My Thoughts
You have your own party, and the extension of that party, the media, not biting.... Why? Because they are large organizations with a responsibility, and they would look foolish if they jumped on stories like these... It is time for us to move away from this garbage. The media is making fun of us, and my mailman told me I was stupid to believe in moveon.org since I got a free gift from the today for cleaning towels at the voting gym.

3. Another DU'er mentioned a couple days ago, about Franklin County
that maybe there are other Franklin Counties in the U.S. with similar problems.

What if there's something to that?

5. Gaston COunty, NC used Accuvotes- could effect statewide race
12,000 votes uncounted in Gaston -Nov 9, 2004 Charlotte Observer

Could change outcome of local, statewide races

BINYAMIN APPELBAUM

Staff Writer

GASTONIA - About 12,000 votes cast in Gaston County have not yet been counted, elections director Sandra Page said Tuesday.

Page said most early and absentee votes were not included in the county's unofficial election results because of a procedural error.

The inclusion of the votes in the county's results, expected Tuesday afternoon, could change the outcome of several local and statewide races.

Page emphasized that the votes are still in the computer system. She said officials failed to release the votes from the machine on which they were stored into the database where votes were tallied.

She said she discovered the error Tuesday morning and results would be updated that afternoon.

"We apologize to anybody for this," she said. "After an election the boards of elections need their time and nothing is official until the board signs off and people need to understand that."

The number of uncounted votes is larger than the current margin of victory in statewide races for Commissioner of Agriculture and Superintendent of Public Instruction.

It is also larger than the margin of victory in several local races, particularly for the board of education.

who are doing the checking"

Anybody else think that's a problem?

10. That's not the problem
It's when ANY private entity is counting the votes. It doesn't matter if they made the voting machine. Once a partisan entity enters the electoral process, the results are in doubt. Massive conflicts of interest like this seem to only happen in the US, not in the rest of the modern world. Madness.

8. What do we need to do?
There is plenty of evidence that the election results are in question. So what can we do about it? Given the lack of a paper trail (which seems to violate the requirement that election results be verifiable) what recourse do we have? Can we file petitions or take legal action to get votes handcounted? I am particularly interested in what people outside of Ohio and other contested states can do to make sure an accurate vote count is done.

If anyone has ideas let us all know.

11. Wait Just A Cotton-Pickin' Second Here!!
We gonna take this at face value, without even READING the piece??

Exactly HOW does it benefit a Democrat...if, and I quote..."The glitch in the machines recorded straight Democratic Party votes for Libertarians."

Sounds to me like that particular glitch would have benefitted the Republicans, not the Democrats! And yet, they say THIS caused their precious Rethugnican ass-kiss boy to lose his office?? WTF??
:wtf:

Sorry, folks, but something's fishy here...I just added two and two, and I'm not coming up with four here...

14. THAT IS NOT What The Article Said...
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 11:05 PM by mermaid
HERE is what it said...

This is DIRECTLY FROM the original link...bolds, italics and headings are MY ADDITION...

-------------cut and paste from original article below---------

A recently found computer glitch in the voting machines in Franklin County, Indiana has given a democrat enough votes to bump a republican from victory in a County Commissioner's race.

The glitch in the machines recorded straight Democratic Party votes for Libertarians.

The votes were re-counted last night, by hand.

The company who made the voting machine is also checking into programming of it's equipment in nine other Indiana counties.

-------------end of cut and paste from original article-------------

Anyone here notice they HAND-COUNT when a REPUBLICAN loses...but will they when a DEMOCRAT loses?? Hell, no!!

And still, no one has explained to me in what way this would have benefitted the Democratic candidate...or harmed the Republican one...after all this glitch

was peeling straight-ticket DEMOCRAT votes off and giving them to the LIBERTARIAN candidate!!

It was NOT peeling votes off the Republican...or giving Republican or Libertaian votes TO the Democrat...it was TAKING VOTES AWAY from the Democrat...and YET...the article makes it appear as though the computer glitch caused the Democrat to win!! :wtf:

If anything, the Democrat woulda WON BY EVEN MORE without the glitch!!

Or is something wrong with MY math here?? :wtf:

Am I the ONLY person who bothered to READ THE FUCKING ARTICLE??

READ IT!!! With my enhancements, I'm sure you shoudn't have any trouble seeing the inconsistency here...

the victory to the democrat (via the hand recount)
