Breaking News: All electronic voting machines in Houston TX burned this AM

According to the Houston Chronicle, all the electronic voting machines in Houston TX were burned up in a fire early this AM. Apparently 10,000 Hart/Intercivic eSlate paperless DREs destroyed.

Hopefully for replacement they will do the smart thing in Harris County and move to voter-verified paper ballots.

3. Are you SURE that would be a bad thing? I realize if somethig like that

happened in most states that use them, the mfg's couldn't make enough machines in time for the Nov. elections, so those states would HAVE to resort to paper ballots. I happen to think that is a GOOD THING.

No mater how much good it would do: it would be wrong to suggest it.

6. Nothing in the article suggests arson at this time.

It says that the fire is being investigated, which is normal for a large fire. And the election begins in 52 days, not next week.

My county had several DRE voting machines burn up in a fire a a polling place in a VFW the day before our Primary election this Spring. Turns out a faulty ice machine in the VFW's bar was at fault.

Still, the copy-cat impulse is quite strong and some people might be prompted to do it. This, despite everybody suggesting that they not do it or even think about it.

No one should even think of destroying voting machines.

I hope everyone will remember never to think of destroying the voting machines.

For one thing, it's much harder to cover your trail if you're an arsonist than if you're just stealing elections that can result in endless wars and perhaps the destruction of the known universe by idiots elected only in cyberspace.

One answer is: vendors.

And they don't care if it's DRE, op scan or Internet voting, as long as they make money off some new voting system.:popcorn:
