Psst! Want to do some Paper-Ballot Box Stuffing???
In this short video, Andi Novick shows you how.

But the real credit goes to Bo Lipari for pushing New Yorkers into believing that HAVA requires the replacement of lever machines. It doesn't AND he knows it.

1. Actually, it was a court that ordered NY to...
dump the lever machines, which were getting too old to repair anyway.

(And that video is bullshit-- the slot is fixed and ballots are controlled.)

2. Yeah, yeah. Highest court in the land and all that.

So thousands of machines are already fixed...pardon...repaired? Details, please.

3. For some guy 3,000 miles away, it's amazing how...
you know more about my county's polls than the people who run them do. OpEd news'll get to the bottom of it every time!

Ballot stuffing ain't gonna happen, and I don't give a shit whether you believe me or not-- I'm posting for anyone else who might be tuning in and who doesn't realize there's another side to the story.

4. go ahead, tell it
When you say that the problem has been fixed, do you mean that it has been fixed in your county, or throughout the state? How has it been fixed?

Possibly no one has spent more time on this board than me responding to OpEdNews junk, so it's not as if I'm hostile to your message. At the same time, I can't very well say that TreasonousBastard sez the machines have been fixed, and that settles it!

5. I only know about my own county, and I'm convinced...
so far that we're secure. We've never had serious problems in the past, and no one expects major problems this time, even with the learning curve with the new machines.

The rest of the the state? The country? Not my job, but anyone in NY using the Sequoia machines should be able to have them up to speed by next year when they go into genreal use.

How do I know this? Nothing special, just going over lots of details with the people who have been constantly working with these things for months. We're all pretty confident that these are the best replacements for the lever machines.

6. I repeat: how has it been fixed?
Your post tells me basically nothing about the ImageCast. It boils down to: Trust me. I don't especially trust or distrust you; I was hoping for some information, since you seem to think you have some!

7. I'm not sure exactly what they did-- the...
answer from the tech guy was just "Can't happen" and nobody followed up on it. Whether they bent some metal or stuck some tape up there-- who knows...

OK, that's not good enough, but, realistically, there's less chance of someone stuffing that thing with ballots than any other box. It's under constant watch and at this point it's only in audio mode for the handicapped, so all ballots have to be printed out. Even when it goes on line full time next year, actual ballots are tightly controlled.

8. well, there's a point
Some folks who were expressing horror that the ImageCast had a slot seemed not to have considered that HCPB ballot boxes have slots, too.

But I think you'll find that when Wilms asks a question, he is actually willing to listen to the answer. He and I are pretty far apart on NY right now -- stuff happens.

9. I'm sure you noticed the non-straight answer.
Wilms/OTOH: Was it fixed or not?

TB (ignoring the fact that Novick and Stanislevic live in NY): Wilms thinks he know a lot for someone 3000 miles away.

Wilms/OTOH: Was it fixed or not?

And so on.

The Lever Machines, of course, have no Ballot Slots. That was done on purpose. ;)

As for the HCPB Ballot Slot, it's not clear that the ImageCast would be deployed/and used in a manner to make that a fair comparison. But yes, someone demonstrating otherwise would be welcome. TB's posts on this and the other thread, http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x506985 , not quite as much.

10. the final answer so far is sort of whimsical: "who knows"
Not quite where I expected to end up, somehow.
