After you read this NY Times article you may think that optical scanners and recounts and audits are the solution. Well, dig a little deeper and don't take the easy, surface solution. 1. I agree, in Oregon we have paper ballots
They are optically scanned, but a distinct paper record is there for any needed recounts if they scanners are believed to be on the fritz.
