TrueMajorityAction Board of Directors Election

http://www.truemajorityaction.org/boardelections/

What is TrueMajorityAction?
TrueMajorityAction is an incorporated 501c4 education, lobbying and electoral organization, and its members get to elect one Board member each year.

What do Board members do?
Like the boards of most businesses and non-profits, this board is not involved in the day-to-day operations of the enterprise. Rather it exists to provide strategic oversight, and keep us true to our mission. Members are also asked to look over our annual plans and some financial reports from time to time. We hold a few board meetings each year, by conference call. Since we're a non-profit, there's no salary for board members.

Who's on the Board now?
Gloria Totten: Gloria is Executive Director of Progressive Majority, which recruits and nurtures strong new progressive candidates and supercharges their campaigns for office. Previously she was the top political strategist for the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL), and before that she was a grassroots organizer on campaigns from President to Mayor. Gloria attended her first precinct caucus at age nine, and hasn't stopped working for progressive causes since.

Heather Booth: For 40 years, the name Heather Booth has been synonymous with activism for social change. From Mississippi civil rights struggles in the 1960s and pioneering work on women's rights, she went on to found the Midwest Academy, the nation's top school for training political organizers, and Citizen Action, whose millions of members support chapters around the country pushing progressive values in state legislatures. Heather is still one of the nation's top grassroots organizers.

Guy Saperstein: Deeply involved in civil rights work from an early age, Guy Saperstein decided after graduating from law school to devote his efforts entirely to social causes. He was the lawyer who forced Denny's restaurants to stop discriminating against black customers, and punished the sex discrimination of State Farm Insurance with a $239 million judgment. The Wall Street Journal credited Saperstein with "revolutionizing civil-rights law."

Nadine Bloch: Since 1980, Nadine has been involved with peace and justice nonviolent direct action campaigns, both locally and internationally, marine and land based. Organizing, creative consulting, media outreach and training are the backbone of her work. Nadine leads workshops in active nonviolence, political performance/street theater, creative conflict resolution and more. She works with the Center for Justice and Democracy, American Friends Service Committee, Greenpeace and Amnesty International, among others. Her work has been featured in MS. Magazine and on CNN.

How do I apply to become a Board member?
Just tell us you'd like to be considered by filling out the short form below. Our Nominating Committee will review the nominations, and select 5 for presentation to the full membership for an online election.
