National: Elections Subcommittee of the Committee on House Administration holds hearing on H.R 811: The Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act of 2007

On Friday, March 23, 2007 at 9:30 a.m.., the Elections Subcommittee (chaired by Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California) of the Committee on House Administration (chaired by Rep. Juanita Millender-McDonald of California) of the U.S. Congress held a hearing on H.R. 811, The Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act of 2007. The hearings were held in Room 1310 of the Longworth House Office Building and were open to the public.

The following witnesses testified at the hearing:

Charlie Crist, Governor of Florida

Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ)
Rep. Thomas Petri (R-WI)

Debra Bowen, Secretary of State, California
Chris Nelson, Secretary of State, South Dakota

Donald Norris, Professor of Public Policy, University of Maryland - Baltimore

Harold Snider, Access for the Handicapped, Inc.
Warren Stewart, Policy Director, VoteTrustUSA
Gail Mahoney, Jackson County MI, Chair, National Association of Counties

1. So, how did it go, and did any new voices really get heard?
Wanted to see Noel Runyon but once you make the advisory board to ACCURATE you are "Establishment" as far as voting systems go.

2. Crist, Gov. of Florida
Was heard to say that DREs will be done away with in Florida. Opscans will be how Fla. ballots are to be counted. There will be an instantaneous ballot printed in each precinct.

Rep. Wexler of Florida was quoted as saying that the short experiment of using Touchscreen e-voting is OVER!
