Ohio Lawsuit to Reinstate hundreds of thousands of Purged Democratic Voters to be Filed Fri or Monday

by Rob Kall

http://www.opednews.com

Ohio voting rights activist and attorney, Bob Fitrakis, says the Ohio elections may have already been won, responding to reports of massive voter purges in Democratic precincts.

Dr. Fitrakis, told OpEdNews, "Essentially, by purging these rolls, the Republicans, by shrinking the electorate, have already won in Ohio. IF they can't win, which is what the polls show among registered voters, the way to win is to use their nuclear option-- to target black voters, young voters and the working poor-- by purging them so they can't vote.

Reports indicate that starting as early as shortly after the 2004 presidential elections, but particularly recently, hundreds of thousands of voters-- mostly urban apartment dwellers (likely black) and students-- who are primarily Democratic-- were sent notifications that they would be purged from the eligible voter lists if they did not respond the letter. But, reportedly, the letter was designed to be easily overlooked, perhaps treated as junk mail. Failure to send in a response caused the voter to be removed from the voting roll.

.............

Fitrakis replied, "We're going to try desperately to get to the bottom of this and try on Friday to get an injuction-- Monday, at the latest.

1. Corporate Media Spin
If the radical Republicans do indeed win in Ohio because of what is reported in this story -- we won't hear the truth from the likes of Chris Matthews. The corporate media spin will be that in the end the Democrats just weren't motivated enough to vote.

What should be upsetting to DUers is that this information comes from Bob Fitrakis, the Green Party candidate for governor of Ohio. Remember, it was Green presidential candidate in 2004, David Cobb, that instigated the recounts in Ohio that showed how Bush and Blackwell cheated. Why does it appear that the Dems are MIA in Ohio on these voter suppression issues?

2. What should be encouraging to DUers is that it's PROGRESSIVES
that are going after these bastards with both hands.

Political parties exist to win elections. That isn't the job here. Good for Bob for getting his message out. Let's help him by sending this everywhere.

:)

in the last couple days. There is a very coordinated RW smear campaign going on with a lot of desperate innuendo, and also legal efforts to try to get him disqualified by the OEC based on many of those charges and rumors, as well as challenges about his residency.

Google up the Pullins Report, which seems to be the front group and locus for much of this activity. They and a few other blogs appear to be linking up with WND/Swiftboater Corsi and are adding ugly crap to this site daily right now.

Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 06:15 AM by cassiepriam
I know they tried really nasty stuff about his wife
but that was awhile back.

Ugh, I do not know if I have the stomach to pull up the Pullins Report. I get too mad. I can't even read Woodward's new book. I couldn't even see Fahrenheit 911. I would end up in Gitmo for sure I would get so mad!

Can you tell me what they are saying briefly?

These repugs have no shame. THey will do anything to hang on to power/ money. I hope to God there is a hell. That seems to be the only way they are going
to have some consequences.

26. They are trying to create the suggestion of a closeted gay who
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 12:35 PM by chill_wind
is soft on pedophilia and other child protection laws.

They are trying to use a 7 year-old controversy on his vote on a Congressional resolution condemning the APA pedophilia study that was a huge flap, which he refused to condemn, and after several days brought it up again in a floor speech condemning all his colleagues for their position. He
was very much in the minority, a fact they are trying to exploit as some sort of agenda.

He hired a staffer with a police record of publicly exposing himself to children in more than one incident(who lied and didn't disclose it to Strickland when he was hired) and he admits some time after the hiring he received an anonymous warning letter but didn't investigate because it was just an anonymous letter. They are trying to equate this to Foley-like type of negligence or cover-up. They claim they have matched up the police records that his Dem opponent in the gubernatorial primary had redacted versions of that were available at one time but have since been expunged (Flannery apparently tried to make Strickland's vote and some of this stuff in issue in his own primary campaign, too) and have put them up at the Blackwell site (I haven't looked at Blackwell's site).

Later he took a trip to Italy with this staffer, and they are trying to infer a relationship, as well as trying to dig into his campaign funds to see if there was illegal use of funds for the trip. They suggest his wife is a "beard", claiming he didn't get married until he was 46 and about to enter politics, and that they don't live together. They also have a couple other brand new "completely unsubstantiated" rumors from sources they haven't disclosed, once involving an alleged restroom arrest while he was teaching at Shawnee. They remind me of a similar campaign we've seen linked here of unverified stories.

Now they are also trying to get a legal action going regarding questions about his residency. The front group (Pullins LLC) and their related freeper blog networks appear to be frantically throwing anything and everything at a wall trying to see what sticks.

They've gotten a little more attention in the last few days (Fox's Hannity) and in the local papers, but the reader reaction to the online news articles is overwhelmingly negative and disgusted.

IANAL, but I can't help but think he could have the grounds for a huge defamation suit when this is over.

If they can get the count close, makes it easier to rig

Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 12:59 PM by chill_wind
The "character" and innuendo crap appeared to to be backfiring *huge* as of a couple days ago. Now they are trying to heap on legal manuevers with the Ohio Election Commission and the campaign finance questions. I know very little about election law on residency matters, but if Herr Blackwell is any way involved and can have any power in the outcome of the legal machinations-----

edit to add--- They appear to be coordinating with Swiftboater Corsi/WND-- linking to his site to carry some of this.

election. A surprise Blackwell win can be credited to the success of the negative ads.

They know that they are guaranteed to win plenty of races that the polls say they are losing.

You'll hear once again how unreliable polls are and we will remain a fascist nation and in two years
the whole election process will be gone anyway.

19. Got this email today "Wake Up And Smell The Voter PURGE"
Tell The DNC To WAKE UP And Immediately Seek An Injunction To Reverse
The Purge Of Democratic Voters In Ohio

ACTION PAGE: http://www.peaceteam.net/pnum540.php

You had to know this was coming. The further they fall in the polls the
more massive the voter fraud and preemptive vote suppression the other
side will attempt. The key word here is "attempt". We're not supposed
to let them get away with it without a fight. That fight must start
NOW!

Reports are breaking that the pathologically partisan Ohio secretary of
state has been secretly using the master database of voters to
systematically purge hundreds of thousands of likely Democratic voters
from the registered rolls. Their latest version of an old scam is to
put a discriminatory burden on voters in heavily Democratic precincts to
meet a special hurdle of verification of their address, a guilty until
proven innocent routine. And they have been doing this without any
public notice that such a massive operation was underway, and timed in
such a way that voters would have no recourse to re-register.

Never again will we allow such outrages against democracy to go
unchallenged by the fullest force we can bring to bear. Bob Fitrakis,
who has been fighting the election criminals in Ohio for years, has
announced he will file a lawsuit no later than this coming Monday.
Please tell the DNC, and also the Ohio Democratic party (if you are an
Ohio resident), to bring every resource to bear to join in this battle
for the soul of our electoral process

ACTION PAGE: http://www.peaceteam.net/pnum540.php

Please take action NOW, so we can win all victories that are supposed to
be ours.
