Out with new, in with newer:Latest vote-counters untried

Monday, October 16, 2006
Joan Mazzolini Plain Dealer Reporter

...To count the votes with technology so new that it has never been used in any election.

"They told us that," said Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora(Democrat,Cuyahoga Democratic Party Chairman)."I'm concerned. I'm concerned about the whole election system that we've purchased."

Votes cast on electronic machines are recorded on memory cards, and plugging 6,000 cards into machine ports tocount the votes takes a long time. But Diebold Election Systems, which makes the county's voting machines, has created a device that can count votes on six memory cards at a time, in about a minute.

The board will buy 36 of the devices and wire them together to count rapidly...

Another election challenge:large number of absentees

Quickly counting votes cast ontouch-screen machines is not the only challenge that Cuyahoga County elections officials face Nov. 7.

They also will be tested by the number of absentee ballots they have to count.

In the May primary, misprinted absentee ballots prevented optical scanners from reading votes, resulting in a hand count that delayed results for a week.

About 17,000 absentee ballots were submitted in May. A hundred thousand or more are expected next month as a result of a change in state law...

1. I SMELL VOTER FRAUD AND ELECTION RESULTS CORRUPTION.....
it would be so simple to create a paper trail and paper receipt in duplicate. Wonder what possible reason there could be for NOT PROVIDING this additional positive verification process or step???????

4. Afternoon drive time a-hole was ranting that the Dems were behind this
because the Dems were too stupid (I was checking to see if, for once, they would cover any kind of traffic on I-77 - despite their offices being right on the I-77/I480 cloverleaf, they ignore I-77, except as a reference for some other road's traffic).

He pointed out (as do all righties who try to trick you into thinking that this is a VOTER-induced problem) that the only places that had any voting problems were in HEAVILY DEMOCRATIC AREAS!!! Well, Duh! If you want to cancel out one party's vote, you put all your crappy machines in the heavy x-party areas - like 2 machines in a densely populated area vs 5 machines in a place that gets 1/10th of the vote ...

5. The time it takes to count the votes shouldn't be a consideration. If it
take a week to count and recount, big deal.

10. Concerned? LIke, as in, broken levee concerned?
Let's hope this moves from "concerned" to "hired lawyers to investigate" tomorrow.

Concerned doesn't really help us much.

12. Ohio is SO FUBAR'd
From the crazy ID you need to PROVE you are a voter
to the crazy absentee voting problems
to the crazy DREs to the optiscan system to count what paper ballots there are

OHIO IS FUBAR'd

Oh and there's that little thing about auditing and recount costs and the whole rest of the Evil House Bill 3 to contend with.

Why hasn't the entire Voter ID requirement been thrown out already?

And did these brand new machines get "certified" by ole Kenny Boy?

We are SO SCREWED. No matter what voting "train" you get on, yer gonna wind up in a HUGE TRAIN WRECK!
Bob Fitrakis, where are you???

:grr:
