When more than half of Americans are not confident votes are counted accurately -- that's an intolerable condition for a democracy.

This short film finds that much of the uncertainty and persistent controversy surrounding past elections is rooted in the sheer number of lost votes, flipped votes, and plain old breakdowns occurring on the growing number of costly electronic voting machines used throughout America.

Under the guise of mandating accessibility for disabled voters, the 2002 Help America Vote Act (HAVA) is forcing a wholesale shift in how our votes are cast and counted -- just in time for the 2006 elections.

You'll see governors on both sides of the aisle condemning touchscreen DREs in favor of paper ballots, optically scanned or hand counted, as the only way to allow for meaningful audits and recounts.

This film highlights a deep history of success in past voting rights movements, and lays out next steps for restoring basic accountability and integrity to American elections.

4. Any electronic voting and vote counting is SECRET & UNVERIFIABLE period.

Don't settle for anything less than full paper ballots, not some receipt or alternative.

Paper ballots, designated the "ballot of record," used, perserved, available for recounts.

That's what it's all about.

5. This really is a great video.

Several of the speakers seem to suggest that the only way this present evil electoral system will be changed is by large-scale marching in the streets as had to be done in the 60s for the Civil Rights movement.

What it is is "High tech racism" someone says, but it's racism only because blacks are so easily targeted as Democratic voters. It affects all Americans of all races.

It's treating American democracy like a video game.

excellent report on Cuyahoga Cnty meltdown. and my favorite part is his "rant" at the end every time they cover this issue. I've counted at least 10 times he's done a story on evoting in the last 3 weeks. that's pretty darn good.

It's just 15 minutes, but very good. I called them, talked to a very knowledgeable activist, ordered mine, and it came very quickly.

A 15-minute briefing video on the dangers to democracy posed by the privatization of the US election system and by electronic voting machines and what citizens can do about it. Includes attorney Lowell Finley, US Reps. Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, Cynthia McKinney, Lynn Woolsey. Video proposes either an optical scan system, which it acknowledges can be hacked, or a hand counted paper ballot.
