A report on the evidence for widespread vote fraud, how it has led to an electoral crisis in the United States, and what we can do about it. Why does it matter if the last three U.S. Federal elections were stolen? Because, if they were, we have a democracy in crisis. Despite resounding corporate media silence, massive evidence exists that the elections were indeed stolen.

Ohio was the key state in 2004. The Conyers Congressional Report “Preserving Democracy” cites “massive and unprecedented voter irregularities and anomalies” throughout Ohio. Attempted recounts met with serious blocking and tampering. Thousands of similar violations occurred in states across the country, dis-enfranchising primarily Black, Native American and Latino voters. Without electoral integrity the American ship of state is without a legitimate captain and crew. Without clean elections, no clean energy policy, no just domestic or foreign policy are possible.

Democracy for Sale? (Four Hour Special)

With hundreds of channels on our televisions, a myriad of newspapers and magazines, and the seemingly infinite Internet, why do Americans seem out of touch and out of sync with the rest of the world? Link TV looks at the role the media plays in American Democracy. The special examines some of the consequences of corporate media, scrutinizes the media’s role in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections and offers insight into ways ordinary citizens can get involved.

PART 1 (First Two Hours)
The first segment of Democracy for Sale? will feature, highlights from Street Fight, the Academy Award-nominated film, that covers the turbulent campaign of Cory Booker, a 32-year old Rhodes Scholar graduate running for mayor of Newark, N.J., against the four-term incumbent twice his age. Joining Link TV’s political correspondent is Megan Matson, founder of “Mainstreet Moms,” an education-in-action project committed to bringing about change through the engagement of women throughout the country. First on the agenda is election reform.

The critically-acclaimed documentary, Counting on Democracy, which investigates charges of disenfranchisement and the 180,000 uncounted Florida votes cast largely by the working poor and people of color during the 2000 election, is also featured. It takes viewers on a political and social rollercoaster — from election night to 36 days later when the Supreme Court made the highly controversial decision to halt the recount and call the election for George W. Bush. Guest Greg Palast, who has been hailed “the most important investigative reporter of our time,” and is the author of the recently released Armed Madhouse, will be on hand to discuss his groundbreaking BBC investigation into the 2000 election scandal and why the BBC was the only media outlet to broadcast it.

PART 2 (Second Two Hours)
In the second part of “Democracy for Sale?” we look at the role the press played during the infamous 2000 election countdown with the screening of director Robert Kane Pappas’ Orwell Rolls in his Grave. The film provides an examination of modern media and its impact on our political culture, asking whether America has entered an Orwellian world of doublespeak where outright lies can pass for the truth. Pacifica Radio’s “Democracy Now!” host and producer Amy Goodman will join via satellite to discuss media reform.

Voting Rights

The right to vote is a keystone of democracy, but one that many Americans still struggle to secure despite the passage 40 years ago of the Voting Rights Act, which aimed to ensure equal access to the ballot box. With vital parts of the Act up for renewal, even more citizens could find themselves stripped of this fundamental right.

This program illustrates the devastating impact of political disfranchisement on people’s daily lives, and introduces you to individuals who are fighting to tear down barriers to full political participation. Voting Rights also focuses on key portions of the landmark Voting Rights Act that are up for renewal by Congress in 2007 and their importance in protecting democracy.
