“unexpected glitches” with the new Internet-based software, NM
Anyone know what system New Mexico is using?

This comes from my last find for ERD

1. Diebold. "Glitches' go one way - I bet. On Palast list in 2004

http://www.sos.state.nm.us/Main/Elections/Voting%20Machines.htm

The majority of the machines seem to be Danaher 1242-DRE 4t and 6t

and this is some old info:
The state is running some 93% electronic voting, with nearly 52% of voting machines the Danaher 1242 – the older style touch screen machine which gave Bush 3983 extra votes in Ohio’s Franklin county.
http://lnvb.westside.com/NewMexico/observations.html

• Anomalies are apparent specifically in Cibola, Grant, Hidalgo, Rio Arriba and Quay Counties all of which are strongly Democratic districts but where turnout breaks heavily Republican (see below).
• Counties to watch:
• Cibola Co, 14,270 registered voters, 67% Democratic, and adding 5 times more demo and independent registrations than Republicans over 2000, yet voting Republican 52%, a net flip of 16% of 2000 Democrats voting Republican. This at odds with 2000 where Gore carried county by 58% Running 53 Danaher 1242-DRE 4t and 6t and 23 Sequoia AVC-EDGE 4.0
• Eddy County 27,926 registered voters, 2-1 Democrats over Republicans, but voting strongly Republican two cycles running. All 50 voting machines are OpTech 3.53-EMS and AERO
• Guadeloupe, 3720 registered voters, 84% Democratic and voting Democratic last two cycles, lost Republican voters yet turned out increased Republican vote. Somehow records a 197% republican turnout! All 18 machines are Sequoia AVC-DRE 3-5.0
• Hidalgo 2968 registered voters, 70% Democratic yet voting 51% Republican both cycles. all 10 machines are OPTECH 3.53-EMS and AERO
• Quay County, 6198 registered voters, 60% Democratic registration, voting 60% Republican last two cycles. All 15 machines OPTECH 3.53-EMS and AERO
• Rio Arriba; 24,829 registered voters, 80% Democratic yet showing a Republican turnout at an incredible 179% This however not far out of line with 2000 turnout. All 60 machines Sequoia AVC-DRE 3-5.0
• San Juan. 55,254 registered voters. 51% Republican. Surrounded by Blue counties in NM and Utah, Republican turnout particularly strong. Most precincts running on Danaher 1242-DRE 4t and 6t
• Sandoval Co, 63,951 registered voters, seems to have been particularly hard fought, with voter registration on both sides up 25% and turnout on both sides doubled from prior election.
• Sante Fe Co 94,639 registered voters, increased Democratic registration 20%, twice the registration rate of Republicans, and doubled voter turnout over 2000. All 238 voting machines were Sequoia AVC-DRE 3-5.0
• Taos County, 14,649 registered voters, increased Democratic registration 25%, 3 times the rate of republicans, and doubled Democratic voter turnout as well. All 53 Machines are Danaher 1242-DRE 4t and 6t

3. This is 2004 information and has been completely superceded.
New Mexico is now (by law) all optical scan with ballot marking devices (AutoMark) for disabled access and a decent size random mandatory hand audit. It's very unlikely that they're using Diebold as their vendor of choice was always Sequoia.

that used the machines in 2004 (google)
even found DU discussion there on Ohio

but where does the "internet based" software come in? The article does not specify -it just sort of throws the info in.

6. Re: " where does the "internet based" software come in?"
This may be for reporting results.

They'd query the machine later for official results...but, still. This is all because they can't pick up a phone. Blows my mind.

So those machines have an internet connection. Great. No security issue there. :grr:

5. Not yet
Many counties do not have opscans yet. There has never been any Diebold equipment in NM. So far the only opscan certified for use with the AutoMARK in NM is ES&S but I wouldn't be surprised by a work-around solution like MN and CA, with AutoMARK ballots being duplicated foir scanning by OpTechs.

7. Internet access = 2-way communication. Look to the central tabulators.
