Early-morning technical problems with Kern County voting machines led to a nightmare evening full of computer glitches and delayed election results.

The final results didn't get posted until 3:23 a.m., according to the Kern County Election Department website.

Elections officials discovered Tuesday morning that many of the data cards used to record votes didn’t work.

The problems with voting cards inconvenienced hundreds of voters, forcing them to return to polls later or cast paper ballots.

Election boss under fire
By JAMES BURGER, Californian staff writer

Newly re-elected Kern County Auditor-Controller Ann Barnett is under fire today after overseeing a bumble-filled election on Tuesday.

“The six-six-six election was one of the worst elections we have had in our county,” county Supervisor Michael Rubio said.

Supervisors are calling for control of the Kern County Elections Department to be stripped from Barnett’s office.

Elections should be a stand-alone county agency, said Supervisor Don Maben, who was also re-elected on Tuesday.

5. How can you have technical problems with a device that simple?
My iPod nano is more complex, has more memory and a longer battery life. It never fails.
