Note to DoJ: Don't Jog in Central Park at Night and Think Before Suing NY
I wonder if the DoJ turned down the wrong street by suing NY for not being HAVA compliant.

A coalition has formed there and is telling the fed not to force them "into hasty procurement of voting systems which are not secure, poorly tested, and which fail to reliably and accurately record and count votes."

New Yorkers are generally friendly people. But they have their limits.
:D

New York Voters and Civic Groups Intervene in DOJ Lawsuit

Rush to Judgment on Voting Machines Risks Electoral Chaos in 2006

A coalition of New York voters and civic groups, including New Yorkers for Verified Voting and the League of Women Voters of New York, announced today that they are intervening to oppose a lawsuit filed by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) against New York State.

On March 3, 2006 a Motion for Intervention in the DOJ lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court, Northern District of New York, by Larry Rockefeller, a longtime voting activist; Bo Lipari of New Yorkers for Verified Voting; The League of Women Voters of New York State; Lionel Logan of the Syracuse Onondaga County Branch NAACP; and Steve DeWitt and Hank Nicols, Election Commissioners from Tompkins and Otsego counties, who joined in their personal capacity as registered voters.

If the Department of Justice action forces the State of New York to overhaul New York’s voting systems before the September 2006 primary it risks Election Day chaos. The lawsuit could result in New York being forced into hasty procurement of voting systems which are not secure, poorly tested, and which fail to reliably and accurately record and count votes. Using untested voting systems acquired in haste is a recipe for disaster.

The United States Constitution guarantees the right of citizens to have their votes counted in honest elections. The DOJ case represents a threat to this fundamental right.

4. And how about the people out of work
that would come in and count ballots for an honest days pay? And the printing companies that would hire people if they had a big ol ballot printing order? You could give $ credit to college kids that come in to count the ballots. We don't need these companies or their election theft machines counting or tabulating our ballots.

I hope New York makes a stand and tells them to keep their f.... money.

5. Vote-PAD is the BEST alternative to DRE (founded by a voting activist)
NY can remain HAVA compliant without those damn DREs. No need for litigation.

7. Wait a minute....
What's wrong with hasty procurement of voting systems which are not secure, poorly tested, and which fail to reliably and accurately record and count votes?

This is America isn't it?
