DIEBOLD - 2008 "The fix is in" - Moscow Times
The Moscow Times March 3, 2006
By Chris Floyd

Two weeks ago, an obscure, unelected, Republican-appointed official in California decided the future of the world. That future -- at least for the next several years -- will be an accelerating nightmare of war, corruption, repression, atrocity and terror. That's because the loyal apparatchik has, with the stroke of a pen, guaranteed the perpetuation of the Bush faction in power in 2008 and beyond.

One of the few certainties in modern U.S. politics is that no Democrat can win the presidency without carrying California.

Thus, the sudden, hugger-mugger decision by California Secretary of State Bruce McPherson to override the objections of his own experts and certify the eminently hackable voting machines of the politically partisan firm, Diebold, for use throughout the state means, quite simply, that the fix is in for 2008. It doesn't matter who the Democrats run -- Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards, George Clooney or Jesus H. Christ in an Uncle Sam suit. It won't make a bit of difference. California is lost, the presidency is lost and the Bushists are in -- already. It's over.

What's more, "hackers wouldn't need to know passwords or cryptographic keys, or have access to any other part of the system to do their dirty work," the Los Angeles Times notes. "Voters, candidates and election monitors wouldn't necessarily know they'd been rooked." A more perfect vehicle for fixing an election can hardly be imagined. And it would require nothing more than a handful of high-tech zealots, not a vast conspiracy.

Naturally, after such a blistering condemnation, McPherson did what any official charged with guaranteeing the integrity and credibility of his state's elections would do: He approved the slipshod system by the dark of the moon, on a Friday before a holiday weekend, without any public hearings -- indeed, without waiting for the results of a pending federal review of Diebold's mole-infested code.

1. To all the people in California.
Keep this outrage on the front pages of your papers, keep the pressure on your local representatives to have this overturned. Our legislature here in Pennsylvania tried the same middle of the night, no discussion shit with a pay raise. We went ape shit and kept the heat on them through our local media outlets to have it overturned. It was. You can do the same with this. Do not let them get away with this. Your Democracy depends on it. Make them debate the issue, tell your reps how you feel about Diebold and forward articles describing their machines problems. No politician wants to lose his cushy job. They will listen if you tell em you will kick their ass to the curb. Good Luck.

2. Jesus H. Christ in an Uncle Sam suit
that would be a hilarious statement if not for the horrific subject matter. Nice to see the truth reported. Too bad it had to be done in Moscow.

3. Upset
I've been upset about this for a while now.

If these machines are illegally approved, what recourse do we have?

It seems that our only hope is that some kind of white knight hacker comes along to prove how easy these machines can be hacked.

5. So why contribute $ to Dems?
If they can provide a Voter Validation system, it might be worth investment in them. Otherwise, we need to save $ for our last meals.

6. here's what you do
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 01:05 PM by garybeck
the next time you get a solicitation from the Dems, instead of sending a check in the envelope, write them a letter explaining why you can't contribute as long as the elections are being stolen and how you feel it is a waste of money when the elections are rigged. be respectful, give some hard evidence, mention Diebold.

at the end of the letter tell them you will be happy to contribute again, when the Democratic Party starts to address the issue of electronic voting, so that then you won't feel your money is being wasted.

put the letter into the contribution envelope, instead of a check, and send it back. if there is a contribution card attached, check the "other amount" box and write "see attached letter", and include the card with your letter. Using their contribution card and envelope will ensure the letter gets opened (they think there's money inside).

keep a copy of the letter on your hard drive and send it back every time you get a solicitation. If you're like me, you get one about every month.

just stopping your contributions is not good enough. it's important to tell them why, and that you will contribute again in the future if they wake up on this issue.

8. A Better twist on YOUR idea!
First you should post your idea as a separate thread it is so good. BUT let's also NOT wait for requests for contributions! Let's start a petition directed at all Democratic candidates as well as the DNC stating that we would REALLY PREFER to vote democratic, but since the voting is likely rigged by Diebold in favor of the Republicans (quote many of the previously mentioned on DU reports that confirm this concept and the sneaky ways that voters are being waylaid); we simply cannot support them in ANY way until we know that OUR VOTES WILL COUNT. Let them know we will instead be supporting ideas and issues but not Democrats directly.

21. They are rigged for the neocons that hijacked the Republican party
So a letter should have both Honest Dems and Repugs who are letting the Neocons rig the election theft machines, should not get any donations. my two cents..........

13. I have stopped all donations to any political organization except
organizations that deal with this issue 1st, until the machine issues are resolved. It's like wasting your money-all the hard earned work is stolen!!!
Just donated to Debra Bowen for SOS in California. The GOP are raising $60 million to defeat her. It looks like they set up Shelley so McPherson could do the GOP dirty work.

14. Do the good citizens of California have the ability to take this issue to
the ballot with a referndum vote? I do not know how the charter/constitution or whatever reads in California.

But if they can they should petition to override the Sec. of State with a vote of the people.

15. a little problem with that
once the machines are in, they are used to count the referendums, so they can be rigged too. That's exactly what happened in Ohio last november. 3 ballot measures would have cut the throat on election rigging there. they all had widespread support but were mysteriously defeated.

read it and weep:

16. THIS was the real prize in getting the governator selected. bushco*
knew there wasn't a chance in hell they would ever win in a fair eleciton. The nazi governator appointed the rethuglican secretary of state to allow rethuglican voting machines to carry California.

The voting machines should be DESTROYED by any and all means necessary. The machines should NEVER see the light of an election day. NEVER.

17. And while we're on the subject: Oprah, why don't you do some good and
expose this electoral fraud in the making for what it is. After all, you, more so than just about anyone else are RESPONSIBLE for all the free butt-licking publicity for ah-nuld. Let me remind you Sister Woman, you are a Black woman. No amount of money will change that fact. To the massas you are a nigger, plain and simple. A rich one, but one nonetheless. The only thing that separates you from, oh let's say a stay in the Superdome, is your money. Take away the bucks, and you ain't shit. Do you think for one minute crazy-as-a-loon cruise would be jumpin' on your sofa if you were just little Oprah from somewhere in the south? Truly make a difference, Oprah and change the world. Besides, you owe us all BIG-TIME for Dr. Phil.
