What is happening in Mercer County, PA?
Racing to meet the January 1, 2006 deadline for the Help American to Vote Act, Mercer County, PA has set Thursday December 1st for a Voting System Forum at the Mercer County Courthouse to display and give county voters a chance to see the final candidates to become the county’s new voting systems.
So what’s the problem? The County’s Board of Elections Supervisory Board will not authorize the release of information about what specific voting systems will be shown! Recall that Mercer County was one of three counties in Pennsylvania that recently had their UniLect Patriot DRE Voting System decertified for use by Secretary of State Pedro Cortes and the fallout in the aftermath was a huge loss of voter confidence.
At a time when openness and transparency should be the guiding rule, secrecy seems to be the choice of the moment of the Mercer County Board of Elections Supervisory Board and the voters of Mercer County should be asking why and demanding answers!
