Powell speaks out on Iraq criticised Administration by Michael Stickings
COLIN POWELL, the former US Secretary of State, harshly criticised the Bush Administration yesterday for its failures in Iraq,
calling the country a mess and voicing concerns that it may slide into civil war.

General Powell, who left the Administration in January, also said that his speech in February 2003 to the
UN, making the case for war, was a painful blot on his record.

2. I think we all appreciate the help, calling out Bush,
but Powell went overnight from being a someday presidential nominee to America's biggest chump, squandering every cintilla of credibility by giving that speech to the UN and opening that door for war.

That he didn't know what he was talking about (no fair saying "I was misled") is reason enough for his name still to give me heartburn.

A former Brooklynite concurs: Powell is completely obsolete.

4. Powell: Call for Bush to resign or be impeached. I am not interested
in hearing anything else from you until you do- you are finished with me. If you want credibility with people who may actually vote for you call on Bush to step aside. Conservatives, republicans were never really going to vote for you. Look at the southern stradegy game the GOP played, do you really think they have moved that far? You seeming to believe that they would vote for you as Prez was a painful blot on your intelligence for many of us to see.

6. Powell's not really saying anything.
Bush (and Powell too, by the way) LIED us into the invasion of Iraq, but Powell is blaming the WMD fiasco on low level CIA operatives. Same old whitewash.

Fact is, Powell knew better. Here's what he said on February 24, 2001 in Cairo: "He has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power against his neighbors."

But shortly after September 11, 2001, the Bush administration suddenly began telling everybody that Saddam Hussein definitely possessed weapons of mass destruction, and that those things constituted a clear and present danger against the United States.
