Poll question: Kerry presidency question
Edited on Wed Nov-10-04 05:26 PM by GreenPartyVoter
This is purely hypothetical but:

1) What if the calls for recounts by third party and indy candidates turn up the evidence of voter fraud needed to prove that Kerry won?

2) What if it turns out Kerry really did roll over and did not pursue any work on the recounts?

3) What if he then takes office?

1. He is right to stay out of it right now
He was right to stay out of it. He needed to look impartial so that he would not go into office with a recount Rock of Gibraltar around his neck.

2. Problem with this poll (Irony intended)
I think something's broken. Why is it that, when I vote, the option I chose increments by one? Isn't it supposed to count backwards or assign my vote to the poll-creator's favorite option?

(Please don't call me stupid. This is IRONY!)

3. I really think Kerry is working on this behind the scenes.
That is his style according to what I've read. I just hope it works, but if not...then I just hope Bush will self-destruct if we can't find a way to get him out of office.

5. I hope so. I hope that this was what Nader meant when he said he would
prove to be very helpful to Kerry. He may have been thinking about recounts. But, if this was planned ahead of time then it doesn't make sense that the Dems woudl have fought so hard to keep him off the ballot in some places. Unless, they did it as a red herring.

oh, I dunno! I gotta take this tin foil off now. My head is overheating to the point of baking. :tinfoilhat:

11. Leaving GOP a face-saving way out?
(Everyone is wondering about Kerry's silence. I posted a new theory on another thread and share it here too.)

Assume for the moment that the Reps did steal the election.

Assume also that they fear they may be exposed, tarnishing the party's image, ruining careers, and possibly landing people in prison.

The ringleader could tell the GOP lackey running Ohio's election to throw Ohio to Kerry, possibly after reaching a behind-the-scenes agreement not to expose the fraud.

Remember, nothing is yet official in Ohio. And as Ohio goes, so goes the presidency (unless Florida flips first).

If we apply sufficient pressure, Ohio may "stumble upon" more glitches or votes that election officials had hid in a mattress somewhere. The more crap we uncover, the riskier it becomes for the GOP to grab Ohio.

If Kerry had come out accusing the GOP of fraud, he would have left them no face-saving way out of their self-created mess. This might be why they appear interested in learning everything we have uncovered but seem to avoid saying anything in public.

Not sure I believe my own speculation, but it might be a clever strategy. It could also potentially explain the absurd silence of the media and Democratic leadership. Perhaps the media's trying to help both sides broker a peaceful agreement rather than provoke Civil War II. This would also potentially explain why we can't get the raw exit poll data.

Any agreement would likely include other provisions, possibly including avoiding pursuit of the Valerie Pflame matter and other ugly potential scandals. It might also involve an agreement to avoid looking retrospectively at past elections in which, many of us have argued, the Reps may have stolen many more elections, such as those in Georgia 2002. I hope Kerry would not give the Reps a free pass on such things, but letting them off (at least partially) would kind of be like pardoning Nixon. I'm simply speculating about what might happen. Everything above is pure speculation.

6. Even if we do win this, he's in a difficult position politically.
George Bush will end up winning the popular vote even if we can reclaim Florida and Ohio, and a lot of people are not going to accept the idea of recounts and re-deciding an election. Add to that a Senate that's GOP 55-44 and Kerry will have to do a darned good job politically to not be written off in February.

9. Only a few were close.
Castor and Knowles could become Senators, but that's the only close one I could think of. We're not going to pick up five seats on recounts; I don't think five races were _that_ close, went in GOP favor, and were stolen.

13. Screw 'em all!
Bush didn't seem at all bothered that Gore had 500K more votes or that the SCOTUS stopped the vote counting. In this country elections are decided by the EC, the PV is just a footnote!

10. I was a Kucinich gal, but I will still take Kerry over the junta and hope
that we get the election reform that will put Dennis or someone like him in the WH one day.

14. ON THE MONEY!
We must dismantle the fascist machine, put massive regulations on media consolidation, and create a fair and verifiable voting system.

And that's just for starters. We need to give a rat's ass about the environment and global warming. We need to REALLY pay attention to homeland security, because terrorists will not be able to attack us remotely, and hopefully never will.

We need to allow people to decide their problems internally in their own countries. We need to get our respect back.

There is so much more that must be done and undone!

15. Hey!
I can't vote! (something about not being a member before the poll was created..) Well, not that I didn't want to join, but ya know, I only just found the place like a day before the election, and umm.. no new memberships in that time frame. I just noticed that it was open for members to join again, so ta da, here I am. Day late, dollar short, same ol' same ol'.

If I could have voted.. I'd likely say it wouldn't matter now, the GOP has control of too much now anyways. Grrr.

At least I'm glad I was able to finally join! :yourock:
