Action Alert from Take Back America 2005

There's good stuff happening here at the conference. Insiders are talking about "standing up". Dean was great. He expressed how critical it is that we fight for elections we can have confidence in. Edwards did too. Those two get it and are talking about it -- no surprise.

But -- big surprise -- a vast majority of the speakers fail to include the fight for free and fair elections as a priority. They list healthcare, energy independence, economic justice, and so on, but the demand for trustworthy elections isn't on their radar. The banners that frame the stage (not sure if these were shown on c-span), list a dozen or so items (healthcare, and so forth). Incredibly, Free and Fair Elections in America is not on the list.

This is intolerable. Let's wake them up!

WRITE TO Campaign for America's Future. Tell them what you think. Let them know that if they (and their coalition partners) want to make progress on anything, the fight for free and fair elections must be front and center. We can't advance our interests when our elections are wide open to corruption by systematic vote suppression, data manipulation, human and machine error, and willful fraud.

Let's do what we can to get "Trustworthy Elections" (or a more powerful phrase) at the top of EVERY list.

What do we want? Confidence that we are being afforded free and fair elections in which every citizen has equal access and opportunity to cast their vote and have that vote accurately counted. That's it. Nothing more. Nothing less. Revolutionary? You bet. But that's what we must have. Election Revolt.

1. My note to them:
I want to congratulate you on the Take Back America Conference. It's encouraging to see Progressives consolidating their strengths. I must say however that I fear you are overlooking one very important issue that could jeopardize all your hard work. It should be readily apparent to your members/participants that the technical elements of our vote counting systems are severely lacking in quality assurance and quality control protocols. And therefore are inherently insecure and untrustworthy. The Progressive agenda could easily be rendered meaningless if the electoral process isn't secured against manipulation. I believe it is extremely naive in today's political climate to believe that your opponent would not take advantage of such an opportunity.

2. Thom Hartmann referred to the last three elections being stolen. Eli
pariser is the one that I just don't get. HE talked about waking up Nov. 3 and being all bummmed out about losing, and then all the things we have to do differently to win the next time...what is wrong with these people? Thousands of emails have been sent to them about election fraud by their members, many saying no more money till you take it seriously...I just don't get it.
