compendium of Suits, concerning Election reform-
Edited on Wed Jun-01-05 11:38 AM by FogerRox
There is the suit Penny Venetis and the Rutgers Law School is bringing in behalf of Stephanie Harris of Mercer County and Reed Gusserian (I don’t have the spelling here and I was writing fast) and a handful of organizations. This suit seeks to enjoin the use of DREs.

In California there was the “Webber” suit; it didn’t do well but the ruling of the 9th Circuit Court is being in effect rendered mute (I’m paraphrasing here) because state officials are deregulating the DREs and this action has been upheld in a suit named “Shelly” (sp).

In Florida there was a case called “Wexler” that did not do well.

Most interesting to Penny Venetis is a case in Washington where a citizen is suing Sequoia to get access to the DRE source code. There may be some hope here, she says, and the issues being raised here may be applicable to the NJ suit in progress (see above).

Then there is Lynn Landes suit"

IIRC there mention recently of a suit in Tenn. But lost track of that info--help
Are there any others I left out?

Any FOIA requests?

1. The TN suit has not been filed, but is being considered for Memphis...
... using the same legal arguments as "Land Shark" is pursuing in Washington state. Since the Memphis-Shelby County election commission seems hell-bent to waste money on DREs (probably because they are as crooked as several of that county's state legislators who were arrested in an FBI sting last week), we are encouraging the suit to go forward.

The lawyer who is considering the suit has recently been tombstoned here on DU or he could give you more details himself.

3. Now that the sanctions are dropped against the Fab Four
in Ohio, I wonder if they're going to file that federal court case they were planning on?
