MOONBAT LEFTY FOR FAIR ELECTIONS

By Robert C. Koehler

Tribune Media Services

Our democracy nerve is resonating.

I've gotten such a huge response to two recent columns I've written on the troubling, underreported irregularities in the Nov. 2 election that I've decided to give my column over to the voices of my readers, or at least a small sampling of them.

WHY DIDN'T YOU SPEAK UP?

Your column really expresses the isolation I feel and the urgency to get back to Democracy. . . . My grandfather, a German, left Germany when Hitler declared his power. My grandfather knew what was happening when people were not allowed to speak their minds. And we've been asking the Germans about the Holocaust, "Why didn't you DO something about it? How could you let it get so bad?" Grandpa, who loved this country so much, is my main inspiration, it seems. - D.B., Tennessee

COINCIDENCE?

The CEO of Diebold and the other computer voting machine company (ES&S) are brothers - just a coincidence? I used a Diebold teller machine at Bank of America the other day and did get a little slip of paper telling me how much the transaction was. (Voting machines could do the same.) - T.S., California

MY STOMACH'S IN A KNOT

I'm in tears, Robert. Please don't let this issue die. For nearly six months I've been studying what went wrong with the 2004 election, handing out orange fliers to strangers, writing leaders and the media begging them to wake up, working in two grassroots groups, spreading the word on multiple websites, and spending eight to 10 hours daily in a very lonely, isolating cause. I have been out of control, barely able to focus on anything else. I even pushed myself away from friends because I couldn't talk about anything else. My stomach has been in a knot since Nov. 2. - J.K., Illinois

PAPER BALLOTS

I am a 10th generation American, from the early 1600s, and I really feel that democracy is in terrible trouble. We are recent residents of Oregon, coming from our native California, and are most impressed with the Oregon system of voting. It is all paper ballots, and all by mail. The counting is apparently very well monitored and true. There are no polling places, no poll workers, no problems with weather or time off from work. The ballots come out in plenty of time for serious decisions. - D.M., Oregon

TOO MUCH FAITH

I've been one of those people who've been concerned about this issue since before the 2000 election - it's been one of my biggest fears. At the time, I comforted myself with the notion that the media would never allow this to happen. If electronic voting machines were installed across the country and Bush attempted to steal another one, there would be a hue and cry on cable news, 24 hours a day until the issue was resolved. Clearly, I had far too much faith in a system of checks and balances. - L.H.

A DISENFRANCHISED EVERYTHING

I live in Northeastern Utah and I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated your piece on election fraud. I am a disenfranchised "everything." From a conservation activist who knows that most Americans believe that we should do something about global warming to a voter who knows the presidency was stolen. - N.B., Utah

DON'T REQUEST, DEMAND

Thank you for your questioning the authenticity of the Bush election. I was a delegate for Kucinich in our county. The Democrats wanted to request a paper trail. I interjected, "Demand a paper trail." There is no option if Democracy is to survive. - K.K., Washington

BIG BROTHER

Ought we to feel threatened by even writing this to you? Has the democracy fallen apart even to breaches of privacy in our own e-mails? - C.M., New York

RESIDING IN TRUTH

It is very difficult for the Left Wing to accept the fact that the voters have rejected the Left Wing and its far out secularism that attempts to delete God from the face of the earth. You must admit, your time has come to enter the reality of absolute truth. Scary for you, but not for the Right Wing , for we reside in this truth. - J.P., Louisiana

MOONBAT

Just read your column re the "stolen" election. My question is, are you supposed to be a serious columnist or just another moonbat lefty? - Charlie

10. "...the Left Wing and its far out secularism..."???
And they call US moonbats? This guy doesn't know the first thing about the American Revolution or our founding document. Amazing. The Constitution is now a moonbat document.

The separation of church and state was not some far-out "moonbat" idea, although it was indeed revolutionary at the time. It was based on our Founders' knowledge of European history and its centuries of religious warfare and religious persecution, as one religious faction after another gained control of a national government and were able to kill and suppress and burn the books of all others--not to mention killing and suppressing and burning the books of non-christian religious minorities by all ascendant parties.

It is horrifying to think that we might be headed back in that direction--to religious warfare, by far the ugliest chapters of human history. It is a quite stupid response to a few extremist Islamics (among a population of billions worldwide), most of whom want to live in peace as we do. We're going to throw out the Constitution because people like "J.P. of Louisiana" are afraid and are obsessing on the idea that THEY "reside in the truth"?

Good Lord.

Well, not to get too obsessed with this guy (obviously a moonbatty Bushite)--some of the letter excerpts that Koehler publishes here are good ones, and I'm glad he published them, but I wonder if this was the best sampling of the huge response he got on this subject, especially on the details and the evidence of election fraud.

There are so many basic educational things that need to be done: apprising Americans that the TV networks CHANGED the exit poll data showing a Kerry win, on everybody's TV screens, late on election day, to fit the official result (a Bush win), thus depriving Americans of a major indicator of election fraud; explaining the insecurity and unverfiability of the election system that produced a Bush win; chronicling the horror of Ohio and Florida (massive violations of the Voting Rights Act); Tom Delay's part in preventing a paper trail in one third of the country, and so on. I'm glad to hear peoples' opinions--but I wish more of the hard facts had been revealed.

Are we going to continue to be a nation that tries to base its behavior on reason and facts, or are we going to descend into crazy religious factionalism and tribalism? That seems to be the question. We were once the shining light of the world, because of our respect for rational and open decision-making based on freedom of thought and speech. The journalist's part is to assist that process with facts and with reliable information. Koehler has certainly tried to do that--and has faced obstruction by his own editors. I wish he would do even more, and I hope he will be able to. But the stifling of his columns and the Trib's failure to conduct a full investigation are very troubling--as is the complicity and silence of the news monopolies as a whole.

Let's hope that Koehler represents a crack in the Iron Curtain that has been raised over this all-important story--and not just further manipulation (possibly toward the end of federalizing elections under Bush Cartel control--which is what I suspect the private Baker-Carter "commission" is all about--and for whom a "buzz" about election fraud would be quite useful, as long as it doesn't lead to any real investigation of what happened on Nov. 2, 2004).

I do hope that American journalism will somehow recover from corporatization and from its use as a government propaganda machine. I can still remember when it had some independence, and was a vital factor in American life. There are positive signs OUTSIDE OF the news monopolies that Americans still want real information, and that investigative journalism is quite alive outside of the borders of control (DU being a good example). But I don't have a lot of hope for big news organizations such as the Trib. They screwed us over royally on Nov. 2. It's THEIR president, THEIR war, THEIR tax cuts, THEIR profits--to the detriment of the rest of us. And I don't think they will ever again speak to, or for, the majority of Americans.

15. We owe it to Robert Koehler
for his two articles "CITIZENS IN THE RAIN" and " MOONBAT LEFTIE FOR FAIR ELECTIONS" to hit the tribune with a massive e-mail,fax and phone campaign, letting them know, that even if they want to remain silent on election fraud, that they can not and will not silence us.

Atleast one hour a day for the next four days we light up their damn switchboards. Robert Koehler didn't quit, why should we. Four articles for us, four hours in four days for him. Any thought's or ideas.

It will be interesting to see whether Koehler keeps writing on this. If others don't pick it up, he'll be marginalized as well. But of course every voice counts. I wish he would write a book.
