"You Democrats always want to make it so more people can vote."
Edited on Thu Apr-21-05 10:01 PM by Amaryllis
So we have these two bills in our state legislature designed to stop "voter fraud" by restricting registration. Our SOS, a Dem, good guy, is against them. Someone was arguing with him about the bills at a public hearing, and said, "You Democrats always want to make it so more people can vote!!!"

Gotta get election reform; gotta stop that voter fraud! Stop those fraudulent minority voters from registering!

1. Yep and then...
....stop those phony voters from voting at the polls and giving us fake elections.

The tactic cuts right through Rove's anti-exit poll crap, and goes right to assume voters are rigging the elections. Not dirty GOP artists making up phantom votes no way

2. Well, there's an idea ..
Stop fraud by restricting registration ... no votes, no fraud! Why didn't we think of that? :eyes:

"You Democrats always want to make it so more people can vote!!!"

So ... that's a bad thing?
How DARE the Democrats believe in Democracy! :eyes:

3. Brilliant idea! Stop people from voting , no more fraud! Why didn't we
think of that? It's much easier than trying to take on e-voting fraud.

7. A lot like that story a couple of months ago about the high school teacher
who was caught on camera when he reacted violently to a classroom of students who talked during or didn't want to take part in the Pledge of Allegiance...

He was captured on a student's cell phone video camera screaming at the students and knocking one from his chair.

The school's response? Ban all video-camera cell phones at school...

5. Great idea
I'm sure all those well documented arrests of Mary Poppins and Dick Tracys (when they showed up to vote illegally) indicated the real need for this.

6. Um, who's sitting on the White House throne on top the world?
Who has a flock of "pod people" giving them all of their heart's dirtiest little desires in Congress?

Whose friends are profiting from tax cut after tax cut, at the expense of the poor?

Who appointed the torture memo writer to be Attorney General, and got that lawbreaker his reward--despite the 63% of Americans who oppose torture UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES?

Who got away with 100% lies about Iraq in the news monopoly press?

Who invaded Iraq with no justification, in defiance of the whole world, and while ignoring American public opinion, nearly 60% against the invasion, and yet somehow got "reelected"?

Who permitted massive violations of the Voting Rights Act in Ohio, Florida and other states, because there was no one to stop them, and they don't believe in that law anyway?

Who has the power to cover up and smother the most egregious financial, military and security scandals our country has ever been inflicted with?

Who outed a CIA agent with impunity?

Who failed to provide air defense of our nation's capitol on 9/11, and, with almost an hour's notice, permitted a commercial airplane (or something) to crash into the Pentagon, and got away with no assignment of responsiblity and no "heads rolling" for that egregious failure of security?

Who ignored all warnings of the 9/11 attack, and covered up the warnings afterwards, and evaded responsibility by refusing to testify under oath or in public?

Whose good buddies and major contributors own and control the secret, proprietary programming code for all electronic vote tabulators in the country?

Whose popularity sank to an unprecedented 49% on his Inauguration Day (!)?

What party has all opinion polls saying that Americans oppose all their major policies, foreign and domestice, in the 60% to 70% range--yet keeps shoving these policies down the throats of the American people?

Who has control of the White House, the Congress, the courts, the military, the intelligence apparatus, the news monopolies and the election system?

Can't have enough power, nope. Gotta stop those minorities and Democrats from voting,

"You Democrats always want to make it so more people can vote."

8. Hey Peace, did Paul Revere really say that about conspiracy
theorists (on your signature-is that what it's called; the saying at the bottom of your posts?)

11. I've been waiting for someone to ask!
No. But it's a great confluence of themes, don't you think?

--crying the alarm, awakening the sleeping populace, warning the people, igniting the revolutionary spirit, to fight King George and his troops, AND, in this case, getting people to understand that there IS a conspiracy, these are not redcoats who jackets can be seen for miles (except at night), the disenfranchisement is occurring by stealth, by covert crimes, by bad men in collusion in the dead of night, stealing your country away, and having to do it that way, covertly, by conspiracy, by lies and deceit, BECAUSE those early revolutionaries built some sturdy features into our democracy that are difficult to destroy--freedom of speech, suspicion of centralized power, and institutionalizing the "balance of powers," not to mention the ringing call for government "of the people, by the people and for the people." They have to get around all that to steal our country. And we had better start paying attention to the secret and conspiratorial aspects of what they are doing. Election fraud, for one. The coverup of 9/11 for another. The cooking of intelligence on Iraq for a third. The use of the first stolen election to create HAVA, thus enabling the second stolen election. When you look at the facts, the conspiracy really jumps out at you. This is a fascist coup in progress. They have dossiers on anybody who could stop them. (Look at what happened to Kevin Shelley in California!) They are hundreds of steps ahead of us at all times. And we had all better become "conspiracy theorists," and start trying to get ahead of the curve on their maneuvers ("one if by land, two if by sea!") before it's too late. And anyone who ISN'T a conspiracy theorist--who thinks, for instance, that it's just normal American political life to have the partisan donors of one political party controlling the voting machines with secret source code, and the ability to instantly change millions of votes, leaving not a trace--is not paying attention!

In short: WE are Paul Revere!

(Acronym: the People All United to Lacerate Republcan E-Voting Election Reversals Everywhere = Paul Revere.)

(No--I just thought of that--the acronym...har, har!)

10. Civics question - Two problems....

1) Five to ten million can't vote in each presidential election because of ineligibility, registration, vote spoilage, vote suppression, and local policy... (not to mention machine fraud)... and they are overwhelmingly Democrats.

2) Less than 50000 people (best guess) vote fraudulently in each presidential election through false registration, split (best guess) fairly evenly between Dems and Pubs...

Which problem should we fix?

Next week, we'll do Sciavo versus Social Security....

12. Um...well, let's examine our priorities here. Obviously we should fix the
second problem since they are the deliberate cheaters...the others are kind of just collateral damage, so to speak, like the civilians who are killed in Iraq. Don't you think?
