http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/politics/11327345.htm
Bush, 2 former presidents travel to pope's funeral

(snip)

"There has been no dissension between me and the White House concerning the pope's funeral," Carter said in a one-sentence statement issued by his office.

However, in a statement issued Tuesday, Carter seemed to suggest that he wasn't ever formally invited to join the trip.

The earlier statement said Carter told the White House he wanted to go, but "was quite willing to withdraw his request" when he learned that others wanted to join the White House delegation.

The slot that presumably would have gone to Carter went instead to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. First lady Laura Bush also traveled to Rome with the official party. The only other living former president, Gerald Ford, 91, has curtailed his travel because of health problems.

53. "Family Values," you know - looking for some Catholic votes
that trumps letting Jimmy Carter come, for sure. Besides, can you imagine Carter and the blivet** in the same plane? Talk about polar opposites, and Carter has irritated the regime on numerous occasions. After all, they didn't give the blivet** a Nobel Prize, even after all his George Washingtoning in Iraq! The nerve!

76. I agree- the pope would have welcomed Jimmy with pleasure
as Jimmy welcomed him once years ago. And Jimmy is actually trying to make the world a better place, in stark contrast to the Bushies. It doesn't matter that none of them are Catholics, but it does matter that Condi and the Bushes are amoral monsters. Clinton doesn't really fit there either, except as a sign of respect by the Americans -- which is nullified by their subbing Pickles and Condi for the fourth ex-president able to travel - Carter.

Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 12:34 AM by Nothing Without Hope
Bill's never been, shall we say, intensely concerned with fine points of morality, but to LIKE the blivet**? It lowers my opinion of him. The Bushes are such monsters and have so damaged this country and the world with their criminal policies, that I could only interpret Bill's association with them and professed affection as opportunism and addiction to being close to the center of power :(

Going to the pope's funeral with them is a gesture of respect on behalf of the American people. More than that is very off-putting.

:hi:

Well, I didn't get that job. :(
And my dog cost me $120 that I didn't have today (he's fine - just has a bad tummy).
And, there's no Keith.

However, Wes Clark kicked Richard Perle's ass at a House Armed Services Committee reviewing the Iraqi War, so that was something redeeming about today.

Will be going to the Career Center tomorrow to see if they can find something for me. *sigh*

32. Oh - I wouldn't be able to wait a year to find work
I'll have to take something after 23 weeks - even at $6 an hour, because my unemployment will run out by then.
I have no child support coming in, either, and very little savings as a result.
I'm trying to find something half-way decent even if it's not my dream job. I can keep looking for something better, but it would be a big relief to have something coming in (unemployment bennies aren't much).

This has been a depressing day even BEFORE I went and looked at those disgusting Bush creeps all lined up by the pope. He would not have been happy to see them, and they surely returned the sentiment even BEFORE he died.
:(

Clinton doesn't really fit in the picture either. The only one who would have is Carter, and they snubbed him to make room for Condi and Pickles.

143. The rowboat to Love Island
Edited on Wed Apr-06-05 09:30 PM by Botany
Love Island is located in Gull Bay about 1/4 mile from the mouth of the Crimson
River. It was named for the Love family who until the 1980s operated a dairy
farm and peach orchard on it. On that warm day in May, Sparky & the Rev.
visited it. This story is not for the faint of heart and comes thanx to the
use of motion activated video cameras.

Sitting behind Sparky as the boat was lunched in the Crimson river she
watched as his back muscles strained against the oars, wind, and tide.
Being a warm day she urged him to remove his shirt so as not to get it
too sweaty. At 52 he was in very good shape but she could tell his muscles
would be sore as the boat approached the sandy beach of Love Island.
Good thing she had brought along some heated rubbing oils so as unburden
him from his "stiffness."

They walked up to were the old spring house was and surprised a mother
Bay Air and her cubs playing in the old orchard. The air was thick with the
actions of frisky animals that day. As the picnic was being laid out Sparky
& the Rev. read to each other from their favorite book, "Tsunami's of Pleasure
and a Tidal Wave of Love."

Gulls watched as the video tape rolled ..........

We're all relieved that he will be unburdened of his stiffness, and you gotta admire the local fauna and flora:
They walked up to were the old spring house was and surprised a mother
Bay Air and her cubs playing in the old orchid.

Where else but Love Island do they grow orchids big enough for Bay Airs and multiple cubs to play in? I think it's something in that Crimson River water - we should consider bottling it for a fundraiser!

Pssssst! Is "Tsunamis of Pleasure and a Tidal Wave Of Love" illustrated? For, you know, educational purposes? If not, I guess we'll have to wait for the video tape...

To Botany, the KOEB Poet Laureate, who really knows how to cheer up EDVs!

78. It's intense work he does, and he's had a lot of odd-houred runs lately
Interesting how he works out all these "vacations" with his bosses - wonder what he really does then? I do suspect they are usually working vacations in some way.

spent the day in the dungeons (VCP lab is in the basement with no windows) with a whole crew of people having a really bad case of spring fever. The only one that called out sick was the dean of the department.

Hope everyone has a good night.

It's sized to fit most monitors but will be a bit large for some. The site is http://www.northernlandscape.co.uk and specializes in "Lake District and Yorkshire Dales" landscape photograph.

144. My pleasure, literally. I've found it lifts my spirts to go through the
selection process and look at the candidates myself. I'll likely be including more of mine in the future, but I always keep my eyes open for special ones. This one just looks so inviting, with the sun pouring down on the bluebells and fresh young leaves on the trees. You just want to walk into it and breathe in the spring breeze, listen to the honeybees and birds and leaves rustling.

163. Speaking as an artist, I wanted to mention that the tree in the middle
foreground blocks entry into the meadow. I would have moved it just a bit to open a way to travel in if I had been composing a painting that included this setting (unless I had been consciously trying to communicate a sense of being held out). It's interesting to notice how often paintings and photographs have a subtheme of "the entrance to paradise is blocked." Either you know what I'm talking about here or you think I'm loony, or both. I started seeing it in some of my own work and it made me think...and deliberately unlock the path to paradise.

But this scene is so lovely, with the atmosphere, shapes and colors, and dappled sunlight, that I wanted to share it with you despite that pesky blocking tree.

155. Yeah, Botany plays tough but he can't resist coddling us when we need it
We were all pining for another installment - just like the most desperate bodice-ripper addicts, which may not be a coincidence - and he appeared with one. Bliss! If other discussion groups don't perceive the obvious benefits of having your own bartender and poet laureate around the premises, it's their own fault.

Hi crispini! Time to sign off, good to see you!

161. Hi all
Edited on Wed Apr-06-05 11:50 PM by CC
just doing a drive by before bed and saw Botany's new chapter. I think that should be a daily thing, and maybe we should collect em all in one thread in the clubhouse.
Then when any of us are having a bad day/week we can go read and cheer up some.

I know I am about sick of death already, making April a pretty sucky month.

And my pic of the day/night

164. Hi CC! I wouldn't want to push Botany to produce a chapter every night
Edited on Wed Apr-06-05 11:57 PM by Nothing Without Hope
because it might dry up his poetic juices, so to speak. We were all moaning about how much we wanted a Gull Bay installment tonight and he appeared and took pity on us poor addicts. But I wouldn't want it to be a nightly chore - he's our Poet Laureate, not one of those people who turn out daily material for a newspaper.

Of course, if he WANTED to produce nightly installments...

Yes, I am sick of death too. What was it Shakespeare said? April is the cruelest month? Am I remembering that correctly? It's true in this case whether the quote is accurate or not.

Good night!

166. Still here
posted the daffy and tulip in your spring thread. I wouldn't push him either but sure do appreciate him along with everyone else in the KOEB/ASTB. Though I might have to search and gather them all the put in one place. This April sure does seem to be cruel and for me May sucks except for the weather. I will wait patiently for June and the summer sun.
You are getting me to at least go out and take some new pics these days. That is a good thing. Makes me look for the good things. So a big thank you.

It's one of the gifts of sketching or photography that people don't realize until they do it. Thanks for the new pics - I am looking forward to checking them out tomorrow when I am more awake.

Good night!
