Lets turn the table on Diebold.
Edited on Tue Apr-05-05 08:27 PM by yourout
I wish I had a load of money to start or buy my
own voting machine company. I want to see paper ballots but my gut says we are fighting a losing battle so lets a drive to start a public owned voting machine company that operates as a minimal or non profit company and make better cheaper DREs. In essance beat Diebold at its own game. And maybe create some jobs in the process.

4. Count me IN... by the way the company exists already Open Voting Consortiu
anything to put Diebold out of business...
it could be so simple.. it could be open source software that runs on any PC and any printer and it could work so efficiently....

you wouldn't have to worry about hacking because in the end, you are going to count the paper anyway, every vote gets counted to 'verify' the results of the machine tallies, only you only get to announce the results when all votes are counted..

I believe there is such a creature... called
http://www.openvotingconsortium.org/

check them out and let me know what you think....
they just got $4K from Bev/Jim and are fundraising for more...

5. An open source program to run on a PC with a
ballot printer attached (it could print an optical ballot with the circles filled in) . Just pick your cantidates, print your ballot, look it over, put it in the box.

6. In the end it comes to to 3 things....
Cost....we have to do it cheaper.
Quality....we have to do it better.
Politics...we have to sell, sell, sell.
State by state.....county by county.
The big problem I see is most Dems are not
willing to be sleazy enough to wine and dine and 69
the Blackwells of the world.

9. 1 thing
lawsuits
lawsuits
lawsuits.

legislative is no longer an angle. These are unelected officials that are guaranteed they will stay in office so long as they tow the GOP party line.

bottom line, we need to all start citizen based lawsuits.

7. One must be very very careful...
...when dealing with The Crime Family. This is about a guy who had successfully developed the TruVote machine that offered a “VVPAT, that’s a voter verified paper audit trail." His name was Athan Gibbs - he's dead now...

Death of a patriot

By Bob Fitrakis

http://onlinejournal.com/evoting/031904Fitrakis/031904fitrakis.html

<snip>

Gibbs’ TruVote machine is a marvel. After voters touch the screen, a paper ballot prints out under plexiglass and once the voter compares it to his actual vote and approves it, the ballot drops into a lockbox and is issued a numbered receipt. The voter’s receipt allows

the tracking of his particular vote to make sure that it was transferred from the polling place to the election tabulation center.

<snip>

In an interview on WVKO radio, Gibbs calmly and methodically explained the dangers of “black box” touch screen voting. “It absolutely makes no sense to buy electronic voting machines that can’t produce a paper trail. Inevitably, computers mess up. How are you going to have a recount, or correct malfunctions without a paper trail?

Now, the man asking the obvious question, and demonstrating an obvious tangible solution is dead in another tragic accident, a week after both articles were in circulation.

10. They may say it was an accident
But Athan Gibbs "accident" was not an accident.

I can't prove it...but is sure felt like it at the time.

14. It's interesting how many people who get in the way of the Bush Cartel...
...end up dead, or disappeared in some other way (ruined careers).

Mel Carnahan, dead under suspicious circumstances
Paul Wellstone, dead under suspicious circumstances
David Kelly, dead under suspicious circumstances
Nicoholas Berg, strange connection to 9/11, beheaded in Iraq after FBI interrogation
Max Cleland, smeared as friend of Osama; stolen election
several Dem Congressmen anthraxed at crucial legislative moments (war, HAVA)
CA Dem Governor Davis, unfairly blamed for budget woes caused by Enron's $9 billion theft, driven from office
now Kevin Shelley, California's bulwark against fraudulent elections, smeared, driven from office
(not to mention John Kerry himself, smeared, stolen election, somewhat disappeared).

And these are just off the top of my head.

With the Bush Cartel, if you smell a rat, you can be almost certain that there is one.

11. the machine is easy
how freakin hard is it to write a computer program to honestly count a handful of numbers on a ballot? it's not. it was done a long time ago. any pc could do it. open source? what kind of trade secret could there be to such a thing? none, none, none. just a trade secret to how to skim the votes, and override the voters choice.
what you would need a lot of money for is the bribes you would have to pay to get soe/s's buy them. i don't think there is enough money on the planet for that, tho.

in TruVote while Gibbs was still alive. Does anyone know if TruVote is still in business? If they could team with Microsoft, I think they could put all the others out of business.
