3. You know, I've heard that about Google. :)
Welcome to DU and thanks, variable!

This is a very interesting topic, especially where e-voting is concerned. I'm glad someone else has thought about it. Amazing they even correlate it racially.

4. Any data on how many states that had straight party voting
have reported "irregularities" where either the vote for president did not count or was flipped for another party? Seems like I remember hearing several reports of dem president votes not recorded for Kerry. In Michigan we did have straight party voting in November 2004 which is how I voted. I will never vote straight party again though since I'm afraid my ballot won't be counted properly.

6. The reason I ask is NOT because of this "Rigged Aggregator" story,
Edited on Tue Mar-22-05 01:58 PM by Bill Bored
which I'm still unable to comprehend, but because of all the possible ways to rig straight party voting on electronic votin' machines, which can be done without knowledge of any actual programming (code) or hacking. Rigging a machine configuration to favor a candidate, and outright hacking, are two different things and the sooner we all realize this the better. The results can be the same though.

We have a database of machine "glitches."

The first thing to look at is whether there were straight party options enabled in ANY states that do not allow straight party voting. (There are only about 17 that do, according to the above reference located by lagged_variable, and that number may be on the decline.) This can be determined from the machine complaints that show such things as votes switching to Bush or to Kerry, etc. or even the mention of trying to vote "straight party" in a state that doesn't allow this.

Also, look at the exit polls.

The red shift is more pronounced in states with Republican governors. But what about states that allow straight party voting, particularly on e-votin' machines?

Finally, look at states that have BOTH Republcian govs AND straight party e-votin'.

You get the drift.

North Carolina(blank)
South carolina(blank)
Texas(default to Bush)
Indiana(default to third party)
Michigan
Missouri
Nevada
New Mexico
Florida(couple of counties)
