there may be a resolution to the disabled voter access issue we had been discussing:
The proposed legislation requires no proof of disability to use an accessible voting machine, just a temporary transfer from one's precinct to the one where the machine resides, usually across the room. This means that due to the paperwork required to make sure the vote and is cast and counted correctly, these machines won't be used frivolously, which was a concern for some of us here who are anti-DRE. There would only need to be one such machine per polling place, instead of per precinct, and anyone who doesn't really need them would be discouraged from using them by the extra paperwork. The voter-verified records could be audited 100% if only those who really need these machines were to use them. So it may work out, but of course, DREs are still not actually required under HAVA.
