He would take me in his strong and warm arms and the 2 of us would
travel that golden highway to animal lust.

Right now she is taking another sip of wine and thinking do I e mail

94. "Travel that golden highway to animal lust"??? Botany, have you been
sneaking reads of bodice-ripping romances again? You should be warned, it could affect your prose in ways that could prove embarrassing in, say, a staff meeting. With your poet's soul, you may just be too sensitive for some of that stuff. If you are so far gone as to say the word "throbbing," we know it's really serious.

Maybe you'd better leave the bodice-ripping to Sparky and ask Steph to use velcro. I'm sure she has some velcro bodices ready to go, different color for each day of the week. ;)

sound that a true bodice-ripper craves. Pop-Pop-Pop sounds like a monotone breakfast cereal, which I doubt fits the ambiance Botany is trying to achieve here. (Unless his tastes are rather more peculiar than I had imagined.)

Can't the two of you see that this was a political passion play. We were engaged in a symbolic action of what blivet** is doing to this country. The sounds the Rev was making were merely a parody of what he sounds like at a cabinet meeting. The cigarette afterward was symbolic of our economy going up in smoke. (Christ, try to take positive political action and some people have to turn it into something dirty.):smoke:

The wind played with Syndie's hair as the smell of lilacs washed over
the veranda. She sipped her ice tea and wondered if the dust trail kicked
up on the gravel road that skirted the bay was that of her loves pick up
truck as he was coming home to see her. Her mind wandered to thoughts
both soft and yet rough as the dust cloud grew nearer.

227. Hey that was Sydnie's novel ..........
"The Summer House by Gull Bay"

The thunderstorm which had swept in from the bay was gone now and the
smell of the rain and the freshly cut grass wafted into the room as Sydnie
lit the scented candle and stepped into the her warm bath. The bath looked
out the windows and the crimson sunset over the sea looked too beautiful to
be real. She almost dropped her novel in the tub because she was so overwhelmed
by the sight. The crimson glow was picked up the droplets of water on her shoulders.
Content was with her.

But a knock at he door and the voice of a man shocked her back to the real
world.

Did I use the word crimson enough?

272. Hmmmm....maybe. "Crimson" is good, but you could sub with "scarlet"
or "flaming." Fire and volcano images are extremely popular in this body of literature. I wonder why? :eyes:

"Warm," on the other hand signifies "tepid" when used in conjuction with bath water, which gives a wimpy sort of feel. It's okay for using with stuff like "skin" or "croissants," but the bath water should be "steaming."

But it does have promise. I'm not saying what sort of promise, because I don't like discouraging budding novelists...

But don't the letters in "Gull Bay" just kinda naturally re-arrange themselves into "Ball Guy" in this context?

Is botany's genius confusing me? Or am I secretly, you know, ambidextrous? Or have I just not read enough romance novels to be in the flow here?

I bow at the fount of EDV. Enlighten me, or what's left of me.

novel literary criticism, Bleever!

But don't the letters in "Gull Bay" just kinda naturally re-arrange themselves into "Ball Guy" in this context?

Until you pointed this out, I'm abashed to admit, I had not noticed this now-obvious ambisextrous turn of phrase at all. Amazing. The stuff of thesis projects. You may have a real instinct for this sort of thing, you know? Have you considered a career path change? ;)

(The funny thing is, I've read that many mass media romances are actually written by MEN who take those smarmy pen names. It's an image that really tickles me, a paunchy middle-aged ex-taxi driver or whatever penning that breathless prose and signing "Amber L'Amour.")

After stating the authors of a couple of George Washington's biographies it became clear that this name dropping was not literary criticism (surprise :eyes: ) but so that he could compare HIMSELF to George Washington. He is truly delusional, I'm now convinced.

Just as well you never read a romance novel - I think your psyche is too delicate for it! But if you ever want to live dangerously, we can find you one with a color-not-found-in-nature neon pink cover with swirly, floppy lettering and that classic pose with the woman bendng over backwards and the man -- always without his shirt but WITH his boots -- standing braced for battle above her. Your colleagues would be impressed, I'm sure!

They're de rigeur for the cover scene, and they must come to about 2-3 inches below your knees and be black leather and spotless. Never mind if it's mid-summer and over 90 degrees in the shade, rules are rules.

He was always a favorite of mine, and I'm glad to see him back. Still the "vatican reporter"? And downthread they said he doesn't smoke any more. Less atmospheric, if you pardon the pun -- and with so many tonight you should be pretty numb to puns by now -- but a healthier image to present to young viewers.

"You are a journalist who works entirely too hard, which frankly, makes the rest of us look like hacks. You take a vacation from "Countdown" only to appear on "Hardball" in your usual time slot with more insight into the steroid issue than those who cover baseball on a daily basis.
Someone with your wit and wisdom should either rest a bit more, or relinquish vacations entirely. (I recommend the latter.)
I look forward to your return next week.

43. Singing...
I ache for the touch of your lips, dear,
But much more for the touch of your whips, dear.
You can raise welts
Like nobody else,
As we dance to the masochism tango.

Let our love be a flame, not an ember,
Say it’s me that you want to dismember.
Blacken my eye,
Set fire to my tie,
As we dance to the masochism tango.

At your command
Before you here I stand,
My heart is in my hand. ecch!
It’s here that I must be.
My heart entreats,
Just hear those savage beats,
And go put on your cleats
And come and trample me.
Your heart is hard as stone or mahogany,
That’s why I’m in such exquisite agony.

My soul is on fire,
It’s aflame with desire,
Which is why I perspire
When we tango.

You caught my nose
In your left castanet, love,
I can feel the pain yet, love,
Ev’ry time I hear drums.
And I envy the rose
That you held in your teeth, love,
With the thorns underneath, love,
Sticking into your gums.

Your eyes cast a spell that bewitches.
The last time I needed twenty stitches
To sew up the gash
That you made with your lash,
As we danced to the masochism tango.

Bash in my brain,
And make me scream with pain,
Then kick me once again,
And say we’ll never part.
I know too well
I’m underneath your spell,
So, darling, if you smell
Something burning, it’s my heart.
Excuse me!

Take your cigarette from it’s holder,
And burn your initials in my shoulder.
Fracture my spine,
And swear that you’re mine,
As we dance to the masochism tango.

You going to the meetup in Cambridge tomorrow? I was planning on attending until my boss asked me to help with someone else's work. They are sick and it has to get done so... I am stuck working instead.

Wish I could be there though.

252. Lots of places to stay around there and cabs are everywhere!
I was once a hack driver in that neighborhood many moons ago. My roomie, at the time, owned a medalion so we all drove during our off hours from our regular jobs. It was a black cadillac taxi, named the Tijuana Taxi, home stand was Harvard Square. I was young and foolish and drove many drunken men home at night after the bars closed.

As for a hotel, you might want to check out the Hyatt near the Cambridge Galleria mall. It's close to anywhere in the city.

(sorry it took so long to answer this -- got a phone call that kept me tied up for a bit)

with anyone? When people are dying, they stop eating and they stop drinking. That is how it happens. I just went through this last year with my father. He lasted a week after he took his last drink. The hospice people did everything they could to make sure that he was comfortable.

Guess that didn't work. With our new Yahoo, when I search for an image and try to get the properties, properties isn't a choice like it is in Google.

Let's try this:

http://www.trafficrocks.com/featureddrink.php

Nope. still doesn't work. What do I do if Properties doesn't show up as a choice in the drop down box?

Testing again:

Yeah -- finally got it! I have to actually go to the picture and copy the address from the browser address.

"Hell in a handbasket." That's what it's coming to. (Or rather, where it's going.)

Every day it just gets worse and worse. Steroids in baseball and private citizen's medical decisions are more important issues than opening up the last great wilderness on earth to be raped & plundered or massive opposition to an illegal occupation. (I agree with you, Clark... I think they're blowing another smokescreen too.)

It's driving me insane. :nuke:

So many young lives lost this way. If he had those feelings (needing to kill a child) why not ask for help BEFORE you do anything? He confessed, therefore he KNEW what he did was wrong.

That sister must be beside herself. If she has any feelings at all, that is.

Indiana police officers were skeptical when a woman whose car had struck a neighbor's home told them the car took off on its own after she must have accidentally hit some buttons on her key chain. Christine Djordjevic said the officers became believers when they saw her remote starter activate, sending her car driving down the road. They chased it down and stopped it from hitting anything else. To prevent any further problems, Djordjevic said she was taking the remote starter device off her key chain. "I don't even know how the stupid thing works," she said.

310. Yup, that was me.
I always have loved astronomy - it stretches the mind in such a wonderful way and is filled with wonders, surprises, overwhelming and endlessly varied beauty, and constant reminders that the universe is greater and more fully of mysteries than we know. As a scientist, I love that. I crave the sense of awe as well as the comprehension of how things work.

There's a perfect quote from Einstein for this moment, but the book that has it is outside in the car and it's cold. I'll give it to you another night. Instead, here's another Einstein quote, one of my favorites, which is not quite as perfectly on target but is always good to ponder:

A human being is a part of the whole, called by us, "Universe," a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the striving for such achievement is in itself a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security.—Albert Einstein

Someday I'll tell you about a mystical experience I had -- where I saw what he was talking about. Everything in the universe united, and a part of everything else.

(LOL!-- I can imagine the next question, and NO, no chemicals or meditation or anything. It was right after I got home from work one afternoon and totally unlooked-for, which made it all the more wondrous!)

316. After looking @ the ruins of a KOEB party .......
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 10:35 AM by Botany
...... Major clean up is needed.

* The boiler room will need to be steam cleaned and the "bedding" will
have to be burnt.

* The video of Sparky becoming a Cheese sandwich will be all over the
internet soon.

* Bad romance writing looks even worse w/ time.

* Alison looks better w/ he hair down and her bra showing.

* Florida make me . Schiavo and that poor girl ..... may they
and their families find peace ..... also can the press get any more slimy?

* Stephanie :loveya: Miller will read parts of this thread again and again
while her breath becomes shorter (almost pant like) and clothing slips from
her body. She will then e mail me something dirty.

* Less drinking the usual ..... St Pat's hang overs.

* Keith can now take off more time and let "Perky Girl & Snarky Alison"
have more face time.

* * is an idiot.

317. Just for the record:
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 12:15 PM by RevCheesehead
* Sparky and I were not in the boiler room. (We were at an undisclosed location.)

* Any video which exists must be of some other KOEBabe/ATDHunk. We were discreet, and had duct tape.

* In the event that someone found our undisclosed location, we were simply performing our duty for the good of the country. There are, after all, some things which needed to be exposed, and certain truths to be aired.

* Sparky is the epitome of a Patriot, standing tall above the rest. (and you heard that from a Packers fan!)

That's democracy, baby.

"* Stephanie :loveya: Miller will read parts of this thread again and again

"

I'm assuming you mean the hot scene in the boiler room rather than the romance writing excercises, though they had their own ... certain something. I'd say we should encourage Cheese and Sparky to continue producing Stephanie-stimulating scenes, but the fact is, they're bad enough without encouragement! We could hardly hear the lofty political discussion out in the club room with all that caterwauling going on!

As for " Less drinking the usual ....," what do you expect when our bartender is off in the boiler room most of the evening??

Good summary! Father Sarducci might be added, as he made quite an impact. Snarky Alison did a good job and Keith can continue to re-energize or whatever he is doing with confidence that the show will not sink while he's doing it.

331. Just out of curiosity...
... why is the smilie violinist's face not yellow like most of the other smilies? He has no pigmentation. He's not even blue, like the bored smilie.

This Fiddler looks a little haunted, if you ask me: :nopity:

336. dzika, we'll undoubtedly have something planned for Countdown's 2nd...
... anniversary -- so check the nightly blog HERE IN E.R.
and also the clubhouse on MARCH 31.

I think there should be some celebratory gesture symbolizing "Countdown"
which we all perform simultaneously.

Therefore...

I propose we print off copies of the March 31st NEWSLETTER --
and all THROW THEM in the air when KO throws the papers in the middle of the show!

Thanks, dzika. Of course you're invited! You didn't even need to ask. And the first round is on the house. :loveya:
