I know this may be old news to some, but it's not to me. And it's important to what's happening right now. I just kicked it over, in my research of the Calif. situation, in an L.A. City Beat interview of Connie McCormack (...pro-Diebold L.A. County elections chief, who vacations with her good buddy, Sarah Sieler, Diebold chief sales rep in Calif., and who "bulldozed" our vigilant Secretary of State Kevin Shelley out of office--her word, "bulldozed"--because he wouldn't give Diebold/McCormack an exemption from the paper trail rule, and sued their asses for their lies about the security of their machines).
Kim Alexander is the head of the California Voter Foundation, a non-profit voter rights group, and is one of the few people who, on the public's behalf--on OUR behalf--goes and sits at these lobbyist-infested, gobble-de-gook meetings in Sacramento, where our votes are destroyed, our taxpyers' money is stolen, our environment is trashed, and our schools and medical care are degraded, to pad corporate coffers.
She does what she can there, and reports it all to the public at: www.calvoter.org
She is a hero!
Here's what dragon lady ("if Kevin Shelley drops dead tomorrow") Connie McCormack had to say about Kim Alexander, in an L.A. City Beat interview on 5/24/05.
"CityBeat: How do you respond to the charge by Kim Alexander of the California Voter Foundation that you put 40,000 votes at risk by asking Diebold to alter the software on the eve of the recall election?
"Conny McCormack: That woman has absolutely no credentials in elections. It’s almost laughable. She says I put 40,000 votes at risk. I would never do that. I wouldn’t have a job if I did that."

You go, girl!

Here's part of my letter to the CA Voting Systems and Procedures Panel, today:
"I am citing numerous experts in this letter, but I want to put in a word for ordinary citizens and voters--the people whose consent is required for government to be legitimate. In response to a question by L.A. City Beat, regarding 40,000 votes that were put at risk in the 2003 Recall election, due to uncertified Diebold software changes--a charge made by election reform advocate Kim Alexander--Connie McCormack said the following: 'That woman has absolutely no credentials in elections. It’s almost laughable….'
"Well, I myself have 'no credentials in elections,' except for being one of the 'governed' whose consent is required for legitimate government. I have a right to understand and observe how my vote is counted. If I cannot do so, then I do not really have a right to vote. Vote counting should not be something that only 'experts' and 'professionals' can understand. McCormack's remark that someone questioning her judgment has 'no credentials' and is 'almost laughable' is very revealing. Is this what Connie McCormack and her friends at Diebold think of my concern and that of other ordinary citizens that our right to vote is at risk—that it's 'laughable'? That we have no 'credentials'? This is one more reason why these electronic voting systems should be held in great suspicion, stringently regulated and thrown out if necessary. They foster a cavalier and contemptuous attitude toward voters, and pose a serious threat to the sovereignty of the people."

Note: Kim Alexander is extremely knowledgeable about computers and electronic voting, and runs a non-profit devoted to informing the public on these issues. If that's Diebold/McCormack's attitude toward HER, we can imagine what her attitude is toward your average Jane and Joe Voter.
