It is definitely related to the topic at hand (special elections) but he just got called out by Candice Miller (R) saying that this is really about his bigger Election Reform bill- that this issue should be debated in it's proper context later on...

She kinda has a point, but she also kinda an asshole (I'm from Michigan, she is former SOS here).

Conyers main point was that in the case of these special election there needs to be enough good, functioning voting machines and he explained what happened in OH (i.e. unequal distribution of machines)

Now Hastert is talking blah blah blah boring, not really addressing the Conyers message

Threat, terra terra after 9/11 , bipartisan, terrorists hate us and our democracy - i swear to god these people need to get the fuck over it.
Same old shit

16. You missed the debate. They're voting now.
Conyers got them to do a "record vote". So we'll see who did what.

18. we have to start local, at the bottom, as Dr. Dean has stated:
take the country back at the grass roots level (a paraphrase, not a quote).

I have no influence over repubs in congress, except to write my local prostitute loving congressman, who ignores all critical suggestions.

19. all the grassroot efforts are worthless unless we get to the bottom of the
2004 election. We need answers about the machines and source code. We need a way to bring those, like Blackwell to justice when equal protection has been violated.

As an Ohioan, the past election brought out the largest grassroots effort of all time. Without a fair election it was for naught.

...involved in. We get everybody out to vote, and that they do, they vote in droves--we oust the Cartel--and they steal it, with their paperless, secret source code whizdings.

But, of course, there is a reason they hacked this fabulous, new democracy movement to pieces. And I don't think we can let Democrats off the hook either. Democratic leaders permitted an obviously fraudulent election SYSTEM to be put into place (BushCons owning the secret source code, I mean, come on...). And we need to weed them out.

I think this vote today might help. Conyers is such a smart man! Getting a recorded vote.

We've found out a couple of things about Calif. Democrats recently, re: Diebold, and the witch hunt against Kevin Shelley (good Sec of State). I've had it with complicit Democrats. I'm on the warpath. We have got to cleanse this Party and make it responsive. SOMEONE has to represent the MAJORITY in this country!

But I agree with msongs, and with Dean--re: RESTORING OUR RIGHT TO VOTE. Congress just isn't going to do it. It has to be done at the local/state level.

26. WRONG. NO grassroots effort is worthless.
People working together for Progressive values is what it's all about. I agree about the vote-munching machines, though.

...does it go up? I haven't searched for a vote roster since the Iraq war vote (125 votes against!!!). (Heard the votes on Rice & Gonzales on the radio and wrote them down.)
