John Conyers Endorses VR's 'Divesture for Democracy' Campaign!
Sends Letters to all 9 Companies Urging them to Take VR Recommendations!

We couldn't be more honored. A stunning and ringing endorsement from the U.S. House Judiciary Committee's ranking minority member! Now up on John Conyer's Blog...

From his article:

Do we have to settle for another questionable election where many of us doubt that the official results reflect the true will of the voters?

No. Not if the political movement that brought about the challenge to Ohio's electors has anything to say about it. The activists over at VelvetRevolution want action now in their "Divestiture for Democracy" campaign. Today, I am formally endorsing this campaign and have sent letters to every single voting machine company asking for their support of this effort.

Wow.

2. Now THAT is interesting! Got to get students on it now--divestiture.
...These companies are on many campuses--not just campus ATMs, but also running the University data systems and stuff.

And one of them said, "They think we're all crooks, and I resent that!"???

You've got to be kidding. I'll go check...

Yup.

Howard Van Pelt, CEO of Advanced Voting Systems: “What in the hell are these people talking about? They think we’re all crooks, and I resent that!”

kevid_pdamerica, you have made my day!

3. Any help...
...On how to get those students on board?

Can you post to University message boards pointing folks towards the DV4D Campaign?

If so, point them towards http://www.VelvetRevolution.us/Campaigns/DV4D and ask them to click the link to "SEND EMAIL TO THE COMPANIES"!

5. Ideas about getting college students involved
See this link:

And what is the League of Pissed off Voters up to?

Also, campus Democratic clubs, perhaps.

One way is to get volunteers to claim a state, google a list of colleges and universities, and look at the website of each one (or choice ones) for existing campus organizations, and contact them with a pre-prepared packet, then follow that up with a phone call.

Or interviews on campus radio stations...

8. I just requested that Open Voting Consortium sign on
I emailed Lara Shaffer, Development Director for OVC, and suggested that they become the first purveyor of electronic voting machines to agree to VR's demands and endorse the campaign. This could be a boon for both OVC and the divestiture campaign.

10. Time to Donate to the Cause
This divestiture campaign is the way to break the back of the vote machine companies. They are going to have to become accountable in the same way that government agencies are because they are performing a governmental function and receiving taxpayer money. John Conyers has stated that if they do not take the steps asked for by VR, he will introduce legislation to deny them HAVA funds -- the billions of dollars that Congress appropriated to cover the purchase of new machines nationwide. This is part of the divestiture campaign. However, everyone who cares about this issue and all of those who complained about the election results should step up and donate to VelvetRevolution. It costs a lot of money to conduct a campaign such as this -- lawyers, financial experts, millions of emails and letters, and the data base behind all of it. VR is going up against some billion dollar companies, and needs a real war chest to do so. So please, all of you go to www.velvetrevolution.us and dig deep because this action is real and it is for all Americans.
