Boxer vindicated: Memo urged Rice to meet on Al-Qaeda before Sept. 11 ...
...attack.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/usattacksriceqaeda

The incompetent, lying Ms Rice and her incompetent lying boss, are further exposed.

"Eight months before the September 11, 2001, attacks, the White House's then counterterrorism adviser urged then national security adviser Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) to hold a high-level meeting on the Al-Qaeda network, according to a memo made public.

"We urgently need such a principals-level review on the Al-Qaeda network," then White House counterterrorism adviser Richard Clarke wrote in the January 25, 2001 memo."

"However, Rice wrote in a March 22, 2004 column in The Washington Post, "No Al-Qaeda threat was turned over to the new administration.""

All of us here at 2004ER&D who supported Senator Boxer should definitely take the opportunity to write or call her again and reaffirm our deepest appreciation for her courage and true patriotism.

Peace.

1. Senator Boxer will always be my Hero!
She not only stood-up when no one else would, but single-handedly got the rest of the Dem's motivated to take action! Placing herself on the very line, how can we ever thank her.

I called her at her West Coast office; couldn't get through to her DC office (line was super-busy) and I'm on the East Coast! I let them know how proud I was of her, and we support her all the way.

Thank you Senator Boxer, and everyone standing up for Democracy.

I see a trend emerging. A power like no other.

2. Boxer, Lautenberg, Conyers, now Hilary are standing up to the
liars. It is the only way we will ever get back our democracy. Condi Rice has a sister (Have you ever seen her on NOW?) who is a polar opposite. She is trying to help those in need. Condi, maybe Barbara wouldn't do it, but I certainly will "impugn your integrity" because it is a lost cause.

8. This makes me so mad I could spit! 52! 52! 52!
FIFTY-TWO INTELLIGENCE REPORTS TO THE FAA ON OSAMA BIN LADEN!!!! --and they couldn't possibly think to have a bit of air defense in place for our major cities and OUR NATION'S CAPITOL!!!! Just a little jet maybe, just to go check any stray commercial airplanes that shut down their responders and veer off course for hundreds of miles, then make U-turns back toward DC, just to see if maybe something is wrong... just one little jet, or maybe an ak-ak gun on the roof of the Pentagon... something...

The malfeasance is UNBELIEVABLE! And to suspect something worse than malfeasance is becoming more justified every day!

-------

"So many reports on Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) or his al-Qaeda terrorist network were received by the FAA in the months before 9/11, that it conducted classified briefings for security officials in 19 of the busiest airports in the United States.

"The report said the 52 intelligence reports sent to the FAA in the months leading up to the September 11 attacks, comprised half of all the intelligence summaries it received."

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/usattacksriceqaeda

-------

Did I miss something new here re: Boxer and Rice? Or is this just referring back to the nomination revolt, re: this DELAYED information about the FAA and what IT knew? The nomination revolt was no small thing, it's true--but it sounds like there was some recent exchange between them... or one of them said something???

13. The point regarding Senator Boxer is that she took the heat...
...in challenging Condasleezzalier.

Imagine if the FAA and the Clarke memo information had been public before the confirmation hearings.

Imagine if it had been public before 2 Nov 2004.

Imagine why the CIA IG report still hasn't been released.

So, I was just highlighting how truly patriotic Senator Boxer is that she did what she did, when she did it.

Peace.

10. Well, Congresspersons Waxman & Maloney are obviously NOT pleased.
"Meanwhile, US Representatives Henry Waxman and Carolyn Maloney requested House hearings on "whether the administration misused the classification process to withhold, for political reasons, official 9/11 Commission staff findings detailing how federal aviation officials received multiple intelligence reports warning of airline hijackings and suicide attacks before September 11," and "on the veracity of statements, briefings and testimony by then national security advisor Condoleezza Rice," they said in a statement."

Report: FAA Had 52 Pre-9/11 Warnings

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Federal Aviation Administration received repeated warnings in the months prior to Sept. 11, 2001, about al-Qaida and its desire to attack airlines, according to a previously undisclosed report by the commission that investigated the terror attacks.

The report by the 9/11 commission that investigated the suicide airliner attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon detailed 52 such warnings given to FAA leaders from April to Sept. 10, 2001, about the radical Islamic terrorist group and its leader, Osama bin Laden.

Was there a change, or is your quote about Clarke from another source?

Clarke's warnings about AQ are old news to anyone who's been paying attention. I'm glad Boxer tried to pin Condi down, although Richard Ben-Veniste did a pretty good job at the 9/11 hearings too, despite her filibustering. The problem was that the Aug 6, 2001 PDB was declassified and released the day before Easter Sunday so that no one would actually read it. So, here's a nice link to the PDF version if anyone wants it:

<http://www.cnn.com/2004/images/04/10/whitehouse.pdf>

This should have been required reading for every American BEFORE the (stolen) election.

Also, for the life of me, I don't know why the Dems didn't go after the Bushies on this more during the campaign!

25. Yahoo switched the article after I posted the original URL. Here is...
....the link to the News.com.au report on the same matter:

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,12216295-23109,00.html

And a related Reuters report that does not contain the same quotes as the News.com.au (and original Yahoo posting of the AP report, did):

http://olympics.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=politicsNews&storyID=7600332

You betcha Rove and company are doing everything they can to suppress this one.

Oh, and for sure, I'm saving these reports to hard drive!!

Rice has got some major downside on all this, including statements made under oath during her hearings that can now be even more thoroughly scrutinized for just how many lies she told, in how many different settings, since 11 Sept 2001.

Demand the CIA IG report be released, everyone.

Peace.

http://www2.gwu.edu/%7Ensarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB147/index.htm

And, read this:

"Two days after Rice's March 22 op-ed, Clarke told the 9/11 Commission, "there's a lot of debate about whether it's a plan or a strategy or a series of options -- but all of the things we recommended back in January were those things on the table in September. They were done. They were done after September 11th. They were all done. I didn't really understand why they couldn't have been done in February (2001).""

33. NYTimes: "'01 Memo to Rice Warned of Qaeda and Offered Plan"
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 02:34 AM by understandinglife
Front page, online.

Not an AP wire report but some actual reporting by an NY Times staff journalist.

Two quotes:

"Mr. Levitt, now director of terrorism studies at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, said that whether the document constitutes a "plan," as Mr. Clarke averred and Dr. Rice denied, is "a semantic debate." But he said the experience of reading the original documents for the first time Friday left him with a strong impression of the danger Al Qaeda posed.

"I think it makes the threat look pretty urgent," Mr. Levitt said. "I look at this and I see something that to my mind requires immediate attention.""

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/12/politics/12clarke.html?pagewanted=2&ei=5094&en=20dfc8ea10b55dd0&hp&ex=1108270800&partner=homepage

Dept of State flack and a worm from the Brookings squirmed in their statements.

Peace.
