Ask yourself: What is the most powerful action I can take today?
What can I do that will create ripples beyond the range of my vision?

What can I do that will make the biggest difference in the world?

Post your answers here--and do it!

"...They promised to work in grace with each other
To brave the beautiful planet called home

"There was no promise that they could save it
But how exciting to give it a try
If they each did one or two actions beautifully
Complex life forms on earth might not die."

1. Responding to a request by another DUer
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x319663

Done.

2. RECONNECTING. Let people you love or respect know that they can count on you, and why.

3. RESPONDING TO CYNICISM. If someone is doing their best and coming from the heart, don't criticize it, just as you wouldn't criticize a mother singing a lullaby, even if she was out of tune. Fear of humiliation and cynicism of others makes the world a much colder and more isolated place than it needs to be by silencing others' (perhaps imperfect) lullabies. Instead, feel sorry for the cynic if they criticize something heartfelt, because it merely reveals an inability to appreciate something emotionally pure. But understand that the cynic is really a hurt idealist, protecting themselves against being vulnerable again. Healing cynics is a powerful thing to do, because it restores hope. So for example if a cynic says "all political movements are corrupt" you can repeat the hidden ideal by saying "I agree, political movements shouldn't be corrupt" then give your own experience "but I know of one that seems really good to me...." This formula can often lead to some more honest communication than the snarky cynicism would otherwise allow.

5. Emlev, why not arrange for your neighbors to meet with him as well?
I think the more voices he hears of other citizens involved, the better.

I don't know where you are. Im in Studio City and would love to chat with other SC residents about this as well. I think we will be much stronger if we pull together locally and move up.

4. I'd like to use this thread for people to say what they'll do
and then say when they've done it. Any suggestions about how to make this more appealing to DUers? To me it seems like it could be helpful to remind us to DO, not just TALK.

8. My term for the 9 treasonous Dem Senators who either voted Yes...
....for torture boy or didn't vote at all.

6 that voted YES for Gonzales--Landrieu, Salazar, Pryor, Bill Nelson (Fla.), Lieberman, and Ben Nelson (NE). 3 that did not vote -- Baucus, Inouye, and Conrad.

10. Say 'NO' to War Taxes

(I'm going to spread this message far and wide.)

We can stop the war by not paying for it.

The power is in OUR hands, not theirs!

The time for truly effective civil disobedience has come.

13. hey, tommmc, are you checking up on me?
You posted a bunch on my thread earlier today, then resurrected this one from somewhere.

Anyway, I'm glad you did. I was sad that this thread didn't grow legs. I want more people to see it, ask themselves these questions.

So thanks.

14. Actually ran across it while catching up on stuff from earlier this month
and I liked the idea. I do this occasionally. Yesterday, I resurrected a mythbreakers thread and two article compendiums. I'm moving forward to page 11 tomorrow (Feb 11th). Who knows what I'll find. ;)

15. This is a good thread.
What I'm doing today is going to Los Angeles so that I can be there for the film event tonight and the teach-in tomorrow. I'll have more to report after that. I look forward to meeting local DUers plus getting more involved in body, rather than just online.
