Some Inspiration for my Fellow DUers on the Eve of Inauguration
I can't stand to watch tomorrow. Having ITunes, I put together my own little mix of music to help me cope with the election. I want to share it with all of you who are in need of a little closure. This will help a little. Wish I could post the actual clips of songs, but you will have to manage with going to ITunes for yourself.

Hope it makes sense.

Take a Journey With Me

"With God on Our Side" - Bob Dylan
"Travelin' Soldier" - Dixie Chicks
"Deja Vu" - John Fogerty
"Rich man's War" - Steve Earle
"Beautiful Day" - U2
"Go Johnny Go" - Chuck Berry
"Mosh" - Eminem

Then Nov. 2nd when we thought we won and had it torn from us.

"Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley
"Hope you get what You Deserve" - Cooterfinger (Bush supporters that is)
"You can't always get what you want" - Rolling Stones
"Stuck in a Moment" - U2
"Thank You" - John Mellencamp (To all Dems who worked so hard and of course for the Boxer Rebellion)
"The Rising" - Bruce Springsteen (What we must do now)

It just feels more timely.

19. I know what you mean......he was a tweener.
Not part of the Rat Pack and not part of the West Coast scene.

But I think he may have written the best anti-war tune of all time....

Check out the lyrics.
Bobby Darin Simple Song Of Freedom lyrics
SIMPLE SONG OF FREEDOM

Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
Let it fill the air
Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war

Hey there, Mister Black Man can you hear me?
I don't want your diamonds or your game
I do want to be someone known to you as me
and I will bet my life you want the same

Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
Let it fill the air
Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war

Seven hundred million are enlisted
Most of what you read, most of what you read, is made of lies
But speaking one to one, ain't it everybody's sun
To wake to in the morning when we rise?

Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung, never sung, before
Let it fill the air
Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war

No doubt some folks enjoy doin' battle
Like presidents, prime ministers and kings
So let's all build them shelves so they can fight among themselves
and leave us be those who want to sing

Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never, ever, sung before
Let it fill the air
Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war

Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never, ever, sung before
Speaking one to one
Ain't it everybody's sun
To wake to in the morning when we rise
Speaking one to one
Ain't it everybody's sun
To wake to in the morning when we rise

22. Bobby Darrin gave up the lounge act and lounge singer life style
to do something more with his life and his music. He wanted to make a difference and he began writing folk music - anti war songs.

Unfortunately for the world, he died young and is not really known for his folk music. I love the guy - the "lounge" music and the folk music. :loveya:

I am hesitant to go to the movie about him, I am not sure the "star" can adequately depict the man and his talents.

10. Or Tim Buckley's 'No Man Can Find the War'
"Have you, each and all, gone blind? Is the war inside your mind?"
Every time I hear that one it seems like it could have been written today. Timeless.

I love both the Buckleys. Beautiful beautiful music!

12. Thus the Deja Vu song. The Repubs just don't get the irony, but you
know what they say, "those who do not learn form the part are doomed to repeat it." I think it is pretty telling that the architects of this war were privileged enough not to fight the last one.

OK, I'm a pussy; but, I can't bare it. DU and AAR, teamed with funny DVD's (has been and will continue to be for the next little while) hopefully will keep me sane. My prayers will be for the protestors tomorrow in DC!

watching them made me feel like I was slacking off. But all of a sudden, all I can stand is comedy. Anything else reminds me of all this, so now it's comedies for me.

18. Lives in the Balance - Jackson Browne
From 1986 Lives In the Balance. I believe written about the Iran/Contra situation, but to me it suits where we are today even more:

LIVES IN THE BALANCE

I've been waiting for something to happen
For a week or a month or a year
With the blood in the ink of the headlines
And the sound of the crowd in my ear
You might ask what it takes to remember
When you know that you've seen it before
Where a government lies to a people
And a country is drifting to war

And there's a shadow on the faces
Of the men who send the guns
To the wars that are fought in places
Where their business interest runs

On the radio talk shows and the T.V.
You hear one thing again and again
How the U.S.A. stands for freedom
And we come to the aid of a friend
But who are the ones that we call our friends--
These governments killing their own?
Or the people who finally can't take any more
And they pick up a gun or a brick or a stone
There are lives in the balance
There are people under fire
There are children at the cannons
And there is blood on the wire

There's a shadow on the faces
Of the men who fan the flames
Of the wars that are fought in places
Where we can't even say the names

They sell us the President the same way
They sell us our clothes and our cars
They sell us every thing from youth to religion
The same time they sell us our wars
I want to know who the men in the shadows are
I want to hear somebody asking them why
They can be counted on to tell us who our enemies are
But they're never the ones to fight or to die
And there are lives in the balance
There are people under fire
There are children at the cannons
And there is blood on the wire

33. Saw the IMix, that was great. I don't know how to direct people to it
though, since you get an error when you search for the title. I also realized that in general, the songs represent the election in general. War, John, Sadness, Thankfulness. It all could be taken several ways. I think the "I Hope You Get What You Deserve" song might confuse a Bushie!

27. Mellencamp's "Walk Tall" is another good one
They played it on my local station first thing in the morning November 3, and I felt it was a message. It's made me cry ever since.

The simple minded
And the uninformed
Can be easily led astray
And those that cannot connect the dots
Hey look the other way
People believe what they want to believe
When it makes no sense at all
So be careful of those killing in Jesus's name
He don't believe in killing at all

And I wish you a long sight line
And the strength to walk tall
Walk tall
Yeah walk on
Through this world
Walk tall

Somewhere out in the distance
Is the death of you and me
Even though we don't think of it much
It's still out there for us to see
If you treat life like a bar room fight
You'll die stinking of gin
No drunkards are allowed in heaven
No sinners will get in

Walk tall
Yeah, walk on
Walk tall
Through this world
Walk tall

So be careful in what you believe in
There's plenty to get you confused
And in this land called paradise
You must walk in many men's shoes
Bigotry and hatred are enemies to us all
Grace, mercy and forgiveness
Will help a man walk tall

So walk tall
Yeah, walk on
Walk tall
Through this world
Through this world
Yeah, walk tall
Then walk on
Walk tall
Then walk on
Through this world
Through this world
Through this world
Through this world
Walk tall
Walk tall
Then walk on
Walk tall

30. The definative Anti-War Song - For What It's Worth - Stephen Stills - 1966
For What It's Worth
Stephen Stills, 1966

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

-----------------------------------------------------

I think it is especially relevant for tomorrow's demonstration against warmonger bush and his neocons...
