I am sick of this red state accusation,, and secession bullshit!
Look I live in a red state, Georgia. I am really sick and tired of being lumped in with the Republicans of my state as a red person and having generalized comments made about my state. I am not stupid, nor do I like Nascar, nor do I hunt, and yes I am educated.
I will say this once more for the edification of those to ignorant to understand. Millions of people in red states voted Democratic in this election. You are doing the same thing Repugnacons do, painting with a broad brush, when you make remarks like "The Red Confederacy".

I will venture to say that it took much more guts for me to put a Kerry bumper sticker on my car than it did any of you in the "Blue states". I live in a district that is 90% Republican. I had Kerry yard signs up in a neighborhood that had only one house with such signs, mine. I was confronted for my beliefs, my house was egged,I was nearly run off the road, and I had a confrontation in a dark parking lot with a guy in a pickup truck with rifles hanging in the window and signs that said "Hunters For Bush" on it.

My point is I am sick of hearing that we red states are to blame for this election. No, the ineptitude of the Democrats message, the red voters in our states, and fraud lost this election, not any "Red State"!
I will look you dead in the eye and argue that I did more to support this party than most blue staters did. Do not tell me that I did not put my ass on the line for this party. I gave the max amount of money I could, I volunteered in every way I could, I helped get a Democratic Congressman re-elected in this "RED" State. So please stop lumping those of us who are on the side of liberals and progressives in with the Republicans who just happen to be the majority in our states. STOP IT! You are starting to piss this long haired country boy off! And no, I don't adhere to the teachings and preachings of Charlie Daniels, but if the song fits.........

In the language of my ancestors I say to you WA-DO or Thank you!

I am RedTail Wolf, Proud Liberal, Proud Democrat, Proud Georgian, Proud American of Native descent. Stop making me feel less than proud!

Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 03:27 AM by noiretblu
there is a map that's been circulating around DU that show a truer representation of voting patterns. my state, a so-called blue state, is really quite purplish for the most, with a long stretch of blue along the coast. that explains why we have the governator is calling democrats "losers."
thanks for your post...no one deserves to feel less proud here.

3. You'll like this, redtailwolf. It's the Purple States of America. . .

Plenty more maps, with many differing perspectives, will be found here:

http://bigpicture.typepad.com/comments/2004/11/weve_gone_map_c.html

As with much of the world, which to the discerning mind never reveals itself in stark black and whites, our electoral maps are a rainbow of people. . .

4. After we prove to everyone
that the results from this election were a sham, then we can attack each other. Until then, let us remain unified in our distrust of the regime in charge of the government.

5. Redtail, thank you for all you did, for all you gave
Tempers are flaring, fingers are pointing, I know we will all come through this but it is a time of deep frustration. All I can tell you about the secession talk is many, many people are genuinely frightened. I read a post earlier from Europe that fears we are sliding towards facism, and people here are horrified about what Patriot Acts 2,3,4, and 5 portend. We know what Bush is. The most telling thing is that he lied to us, and the lie came easy, and it was excused. I don't even know if talking secession is legal, hell. But if my state ever secedes know damn well you are welcome here. I'm sorry you have been hurt, a belated welcome to DU and again thanks for your efforts.

6. You're right. Red versus Blue is False Distinction in Rigged Election!!!
Corporate America controls the media and we get manufactured news.
Corporate America now controls the voting machines and we get manufactured elections.

8. Most of the problem is the media
everyone who has half a brain knows that there is a significant number of Democrats in the so-called red states who can't stand *

That is the problem with painting everyone with one brush

Hang in there, it is Democrats in the red states we need more than ever to take back our country

9. Don't take it personally RedTail.
There are lots of good folks like yourself in the deepest dark red areas. Some are trapped there but I hope you're not. It's none of my business but if I were you I think I would look for a more compatible political climate in which to live out my days. Looks like there are some blue counties even in Georgia.

Thanks for doing so much under impossible conditions! Be careful around those rednecks!

Peace.

11. RedTail...also appreciate your efforts
But I hope you can understand the frustration those of us living in the Blue states also have endure. Everything is more expensive living where we do, we give more than our fair share to the Federal govt. & I'm not complaining because I love where I live. But a day doesn't go by, that I don't ask myself why states like Wyoming are given more federal funds from Homeland Security, than we are. It's ridiculous. We gave more than our share of people on 9/11 too. Yet when it comes to electing a president, what we think doesn't count.

Consider yourself lucky that you dont live in a city where people capitialize off your tragedy. It's truly unbearable. It also infuriates me when so many of us here who dont agree with bush are told by people from Red states: "How can you forget 9/11?" As if.

You may experience discomfort during an election season, we live with it daily & its galling.

But between you and me, this Red VS Blue arguement may work for us both, for anyone who can't stand bush. Let bush supporters know, that we can also do without them if we have to. They want bush so badly? Fine, time for them to start picking up the tab equally. Maybe it will wake them up.

Again thanks for all your efforts.

RedTailWolf, Journeyman and others on this thread.
Being a Democrat all of my life in Alabama makes some of the posts here a little hard to take.

I have fought all of my life (52 years) for a better America.
I protested the Vietnam War and fought for Women's Rights & Equality in the work place in the 70's and numerous other issues. It hasn't been easy.
I ain't lily white. I'm part Cherokee and look it.

Turning on Democrats who happen to live in the South would be exactly what the Reps. want to see. Many here have done just that....
Given them what they want.
Very sad, indeed.

I will stay in my state and continue to fight for Equality for all people. My people were forced out of Georgia by A. Jackson and the Military in the 1830's. I will not leave or be run out of the South due to sarcasm from my own party.

BB

15. Right on my Cherokee Brother.
We are here we are proud. And we wont be driven out again. You see our ancestors marched the "Trail of Tears", never again will we be forced from our homes!Especially for this fascist regime.
We might have some red blood in our veins but we will not leave our country for Republicans or ignorant Democrats.
Thanks for all the support here. I knew this place wasn't that narrow minded but I could hold my tongue no longer. WA-DO BB

12. RedTail Wolf - thank you for all you do and thank you for this post
Most DUers are not narrow-minded, but sometimes people get angry and post without thinking, or post after they've had a few too many. Also, some of the worst posts are from disruptors pretending to be Democrats.

From one red stater to another, I say to you, we're going to get through this.

14. Yes, it is very stupid
Nobody's going to secede, we're just going to recount the vote and hope for the best. And I am very honored to know another citizen of Georgia, home of your former governor, my hero, Jimmy Carter. He was always my avatar on DU, until last Tuesday, when I had to change it to indicate that I voted. But, he'll be back. Welcome to DU and we're very glad to have you with us.:hi:

Please forgive the current stupidity. We're pretty upset right now and are looking for people or institutions to blame, and any target's handy. I promise that it isn't you. You did your part, in this election, and then some. You have every reason to be proud.:-)

It's ridiculous to be casting such a wide net of abuse on the red states.

Kansas City, MO gave 74% of its votes to John Kerry - about the same percentage as Manhattan. How do you think the KCMO voters feel when we're lumped into "Jesusland"? I think this anger is understandable, but it's also alienating strong bases of support down here.

19. RedTail , no offense meant to you
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 10:49 AM by nine30
I will admit I am guilty of these accusations myself. 'Red State' refers ONLY to the 'Red People' inhabiting those states.

However with the red people vastly outnumbering the blue people in the red states, much more so than the blue people outnumbering the red people in the blue states, the Red State tag seems somewhat justified.

However it clearly excludes the minority of people like you. Please do not take offense.
