Hi guys, I am home now and I need some help finding threads
THere are sooooooooooooo many posts here my head is spinning, is there any way someone could post some links to important threads that I missed the past few days? I would specifically like to read some posts from other people who were at the rally/march - and any links to videos or transcripts of what happened in Congress (since I was outside, I have no idea what exactly happened inside). Also, is CSPAN re-running it any time soon? Or any kind of video I can download, of both the rally/march and the Congressional debates? Thank you - sorry to be a pain, but there are so many new threads.....over 20 pages to go through since the 6th!

Btw, I had a GREAT time and I enjoyed meeting everyone. :hi:

2. Welcome back, Faye
In your estimation, how many people were at the rally? We've heard conflicting reports on DU - anywhere from 100 to 1,000. Seems like it depended on what time of day people were there.

I know there are some links to video, etc., but I don't remember what threads they were on. I usually stick to the front page and don't dig deeper.

11. At the peak, which was probably about noon, when the two
groups met at Upper Senate Park, I would estimate that there were about 1000 people. Not like some other marches I've been on, but a good crowd. By the middle of the afternoon, it was down to about 100 or so.

It was great to be there, to feel a part of it, to feel the sense of making history.

I found it energizing (though I'm pooped from staying up too late last night). I feel we had a victory in the first skirmish, and we have to keep up the fight.

20. Heh, thanks
I didn't get any work done Thursday or Friday (I actually overslept on Thursday, and conveniently woke at 10 PST and just stayed home to watch the show), but I felt this work was more important. :)

15. Ok, lemme sum it all up real quick to answer people's questions
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 09:51 PM by Faye
i know, i should have taken a camera, but i don't usually take pics when i do things like this. there is something about a memory that i hold sacred for myself, and I just let the other people take the pics. I know a lot of people did take some, and some that I was with...and actually I am pretty sure scubed even got a pic of me (i look like shit!).

it was so fun altogether - everyone was so nice. DU'ers met up both Wed. night and Thurs. night to drink and hang out and talk - i met scubed, suffragette, Will, Andy, selmo7, danosuperstar, starmaker, eqqqscuseme, bettyellen, hootinholler...hope i'm not forgetting anyone! the second night hanging out was great, i was pretty drunk :( - it was def. exciting when Susan Truitt and John Bonifaz stopped in to hang out for a while.

The rally and march was probably the best experience I have had in my life so far. It was the first time I had ever gone to something like this, and I have never felt so patriotic and emotional as I did during the rally. Hearing everyone speak like that and seeing them live was unreal - having all our true LEADERS in one place for the cause - i had a lump in my throat the whole time.

It is so hard to tell how many people are in a crowd when you are in it, I've heard some people say it was in the hundreds, I've also heard up to a thousand, but I am not totally sure what it was. Instead of typing it all out again, I will repost what I posted in another thread from a cafe in D.C. into this post - so you can read what i wrote then. Btw, thank you to scubed for letting me stay with you on Wed. night, and thank you to selmo7 for letting me stay with you last night, and thank you to bettyellen for letting ride home with you tonight, and thank you to suffragette for sharing your dessert with me, and thank you to hootinholler for buying me a drink and sandwich, and thank you to OjaiPerson for making this possible!!!!!! And thank you to everyone I met for making it so fun - I will never forget it! w00t!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Post from last night: right now some of us are at Kramer Bookstore/Cafe - got access to a computer. Right now with me are scubed, suffragette, and xxqqqzme - we are getting ready to head over to DA's RFD again (there is supposed to be another meetup tonight).

Desipte the outcome, today was an amazing day, especially for me. There were many other DU'ers at the rally/protest today - I (or someone else) will post more on that later.

As for turnout, it's always hard to tell when you are IN the crowd, but I would at least say there were 'hundreds' of people - with tons of great signs, chants, drums playing, etc. 10am rally was the highlight for me, i have been wanting to see Rev. Jesse Jackson speak live for a long time now, and of course it was as powerful and moving as I had expected. Other speakers were Maxine Waters, David Cobb, Bob Fitrakis, Rev. Bill Moss (moving as usual!), Cliff Arnebeck, John Bonifaz....that's all i can think of right now. At this rally, Jesse Jackson had first reported that about 6 Senators signed to support the challenge. After all the speaking and cheering, we marched about 30 to 45 minutes from Lafayette Park to Upper Senate Park to meet up with RedefeatBush.com. I got to walk with DU'er bettyellen which definately helped the time pass....

We arrived at Upper Senate Park - David Lytel led the stage - we heard from many of the same speakers, as well as Clint Curtis, Wayne Madsen, a Vietnam Vet for Kerry, Susan Truitt, Richard B. Phillips (i think that's his name, the statistician in Ohio) - and we had a few performers singing anti-Bush songs. Of course the best moment of the day was when David Lytel announced that Barbara Boxer stood up to contest....but that the other Senators who signed to contest backed down at the last minute. PFFT! Anyway, i'm taking forever here and we need to get out of here, but I'm sure there will be some others who were here posting more on what happened today - I will be back on later tonight to talk more about today and to see how everyone is feeling.

It didn't end up how some of us wanted, but we got SOMETHING, we have a start....our voices were finally heard, although ignored by some

IT WAS A START, AND IT WAS A VICTORY FOR ALL THE HARDWORKERS ON THIS MESSAGE BOARD! Seriously, I don't think this would have happened without out efforts. It's been said so many times, (i'm paraphrasing) that it only takes a small group of people to make a change. A small, DETERMINED group, and a group that is not giving up, no matter who is inaugurated, and no matter what our supposed 'demoractic leaders' decide to do.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
any more questions, just ask....it's all still fresh in my head :hi:
