On January 6th, I am asking you to allow Senators and Representatives of conscience to have a voice and hear the challenge of the electoral vote count. The misallocation of voting machines (especially in Ohio), the abuse of provisional balloting in numerous states, and the refusal and/or inability to conduct the recount in an open and auditable manner in Ohio, in Florida, and in so many other key states, should be cause enough to determine the certified electors should not be seated.

These congress members are standing up and are fighting for the voting rights of African-Americans, Latinos, and the youth voters who appear to have been targeted for disruption and disenfranchisement in the 2004 election. These congress members intend show the world what we mean when we talk about true democracy.

January 6th is the day we Americans must make a statement about our commitment to every American’s right to vote and have it be counted.

11. That form letter is obnoxious and sarcastic toward Kerry/Edwards
For example:

"So much for the vows to 'Count Every Vote.' It's a simple formula. Let them 'Count Every Vote,' we'll just make sure votes don't get cast in the first place! And they were successful."

Way counterproductive. I'd use something simpler, like "Please support Rep. Conyers' contest of the Ohio electors, thank you."

12. Contact House leadership too!
I faxed about half of them yesterday, and will start on the rest now.

Don't ignore the House leadership either - fax Nancy Pelosi to ask her to throw her weight in with Conyers!

And what the hell, contact the majority leader of the House Judiciary Committee. Tell Sensenbrenner to scrape together enough basic human decency to stand together with the Democratic half of his own committee, and put official status behind Conyers' investigation!

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi:
Phone: (202) 225-4965
Fax: (202) 225-8259

Judiciary Chair James Sensenbrenner:
phone: 1-800-242-1119
phone: (202) 225-5101
fax: (202) 225-3190

13. Here is a hasty letter I dashed off to the media:
Exit polls are used to validate elections the world over; they have been accurate even here in the United States until now (the one exception was Florida alone, in 2000).

I am a scientist and a teacher; I am appalled at the collective blinders that the media has put on itself and the apathy of the voting population that is not in the least bit concerned that the exit polls predicted a Kerry sweep of the electoral college votes and a clean popular vote win; yet when the votes (tabulated by machines that were under the control of one party, operated by "proprietary" software!) came in different, no one is even curious to find out what happened.

The worst whitewash was the cynical use of the same "inaccurate" exit polls to trumpet the moral values triumph of Bush, while at the same time claiming they were wrong in the overall predictions. It is enough to drive a teacher to distraction.

And, Bush's approval ratings were 48% before and after the elections. Meta-magically, they crossed the 50% mark for the voting machines!!

Question, question, question, find out the truth of what happened -- democracy depends on it. Ask for a comprehensive investigation of the electoral fraud that has been perpetrated on the world.
