NOW says BOXER HAS AGREED!!!
rodeodance got the scoop at NOW's web site, and posted it here at at:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=203&topic_id=245677#245717

To see it for yourself, go to:

http://www.capwiz.com/now/mail/oneclick_compose/?alertid=6789491

It says:

"Thanks to our friend and leader, Sen. Barbara Boxer, that (scene in "F 9/11") will not happen in 2004. Thus far, she is the only senator who has agreed to join in the challenge - and of course only one senator is required - but that will make her the target of a nasty smear campaign and she needs our support."

NOW asks for our help in coming smears of Boxer.

no civil rights, election, anything close or easy to choose from so I picked "judicial."

For Hillary Clinton, I use "Civil Rights"
Maloney has "Government Affairs".

They make it difficult, don't they?

15. I was using "Homeland Security" because...
...I thought it was funny and appropriate. But then I switched to "civil rights" or whatever, cuz I didn't want the poor babies to get confused.

I find it irritating that almost NONE of our legislatures has ELECTION OVERSIGHT (or something similar) as a category of concern. More than irritating. It means they probably HAVEN'T BEEN PAYING ATTENTION.

you wanna know what the Senate is really all about?
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 08:04 AM by eg101
James Madison, who is often referred to as the Father of the Constitution, as he was in large part responsible for drafting the American Constitution. During the debates in the Federal Convention of 1787, he said the following: "In England, at this day, if elections were open to all classes of people, the property of landed proprietors would be insecure. An agrarian law would soon take place. If these observations be just, our government ought to secure the permanent interests of the country against innovation. Landholders ought to have a share in the government, to support these invaluable interests and to balance and check the other. They ought to be so constituted as to protect the minority of the opulent against the majority. The Senate, therefore, ought to be this body."

8. Sure ... we all know that many of the Founding Fathers feared the
unwashed mob. But not all ... and it is not a given
that a member of the landed gentry is hostile to the
interests of the people. Thomas Jefferson cast his lot
with us:

"It is an axiom in my mind that our liberty can never be safe
but in the hands of the people themselves, and that too of
the people with a certain degree of instruction. This it is
the business of the state to effect, and on a general plan."

-- to George Washington, January 4, 1786

17. Thanks so much, thanatonautos! Beautiful quote from Jefferson!
Why is it, whenever something good happens--when we've worked hard for something, and our dreams come true--some nattering nabob of negativism is always right here, at DU, with an immediate sword in our hearts, killing our joy?

I was a little too young at the time that Agnew was

20. Good policy! And good point, crispini!
The first url I had was capwiz, and I called them, but no one was there yet. I didn't think of calling NOW cuz I figured they wouldn't put up wrong information. Maybe it was a Boxer favor to NOW, let them be first? Also, rodeodance said she got it first as an email newsletter from NOW, so maybe they sent this to their list yesterday, and only posted it on the web site late last night or this morning (but left the date the same).

I will certainly try to confirm with NOW. I'm in CA. What time is it in DC? (I presume that's where they are.) 8:30 am?

33. cop[y of fax i sent to Feinstein
Faxed to 202 228 3954 and 415 393 0710

1/06/05

Dear Senator Feinstein,

This is the first time I have ever written to you or any senator. I once sent an e mail to you, and from the response (which was very well written, but had absolutely nothing to do with what I had said) I realized that it was computer generated and that no one had actually read it. I do hope that this will be read and responded to.

I phoned your office in D.C., but do want to go into more detail here. In a few hours a request will be made to contest the results of the Ohio election due to overwhelming documented evidence of fraud (I am sure you have seen this information, but if not it is readily available on the internet or from Rep. Conyers.). I just learned that our other California Senator, Barbara Boxer, has agreed to support the effort to do this. I would like to request that you support Senator Boxer on this issue. Aside from the moral reasons for doing so, I believe that it would be in your own political best interests as well.

If these people are allowed to get away with rigging the election in Ohio, there is no reason to believe that they will not do the same in California. There were numerous reports of fraud in states other than Ohio (including some in California.). Our company’s national sales rep told us that when he tried to vote in Austin Texas, Bush’s name came up highlighted, and he had a difficult time getting the machine to record his vote for Kerry, and he is quite computer literate.

This can certainly happen next time in California, and in a close race, which it might be if our popular Governor decides to run against you, you could even lose the election thru fraud.
Another reason is that those Californians who contributed a great deal in both time and money to Boxer’s overwhelmingly successful campaign, are closely watching what you do, and will gladly offer you the same support if they feel that you are representing the best interests of the majority of Californians and I might add, the entire world.

I realize that you consider yourself a “moderate” and sometimes vote with the Republicans. I would like to suggest that in these “perilous” times you might want to be more cautious in doing so, and consider how each piece of legislation will effect the environment which is under attack now by the current administration, and those of your constituents who are most vulnerable…children, elders, students, the poor, the sick, the homeless, and those of the numerous ethnic minority groups that our state’s population is made up of.. You see, these people have no recourse except through the ballot box, and if that is taken from them by fraudulent means, then all that is left is demonstrations , which under the present administration can become extremely dangerous. You, as one of our elected representatives, have the responsibility of giving us voice. Please don’t let us down. So in addition to everything else, I guess I am asking you to be especially vigilant in safeguarding our civil liberties.

I am going to post this letter on several web sites, and send copies to my local newspapers. I would be most pleased to do the same with your response.

Respectfully yours,
