Can anyone in DC for the rally confirm a rumor?
Has Kerry asked the senators tonight to contest or not contest the vote? Specifically, since the countdown story has there been a new development on him communicating with the other senators?

1. its not his decision to make. it isn't his right to suppress anyone
else's vote. I hope he didn't.

2. I can't see that happening
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 10:12 PM by mdhunter
Going to the trouble to email 3 million people saying that you're not interested in contesting the vote and then working behind the scenes to get people to contest the vote? I do think he's been asking others to stand down, I think the email hinted at that.

But, communicating with other for support? I'll get a lap dance from Dick Cheney first.

5. I got a phone call

One of my students has parents out in DC for the rally, they heard that Kerry had called the senators (some of the senators?)

I was just trying to figure out if one of the speakers at the rally had said something about it, maybe relayed the contents of the conversation.

9. I don't have the specifics
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 10:25 PM by lwfern
I heard that he talked to the senators (which doesn't make a lot of sense to me, unless they had a conference call), about the challenge. So I would assume that IF that were true, he weighed in with whatever his opinion is, but I don't think I know enough to state anything one way or another.

I don't think these people have any special connections out there, and it's possible that whatever they heard was second or third hand or worse information, so as far as I know, he may not have even made a phone call. So I'm just asking the question, did anyone out there make an announcement, rather than spreading groundless rumors.

edit: just saw the post below. Howdy! Any false rumors are on your shoulders, now!

8. I got the call from D.C.

that's what they said, they said that Kerry had asked that the vote not be challenged, and that the right way to go about it was to push for election reform. This came from... Dr. Lora Chamberlain. (Dr. Lora Chamberlain drlora@ameritech.net http://www.illinoisprogressives.org ) She said it at the pre-rally. She did not hear the announcement herself, but this is what she heard. Another at the rally thinks she said something it being report on CNN? but didn't actually hear the announcement herself.

None the less, it's important to keep the pressure on them. If they certify it, nothing happens, if they don't, things might change. Most of the Senators seemed very reluctant to challenge the vote, keep pressure on them, we only need one to break.

The said to pass this message on:

Prior to this announcement, they had as many as 8 senators (including Reid, Clinton, Schumer, and Byrd) were seriously considering challenging the vote, let's make sure they do!

Call the congressional operator: 1-800-839-5276 between 8 AM and noon on January 6th. The vote is at one.

You can ask for any of the 44 Democratic senators. Ask to speak to their aid who deals with election fraud issues, and if the aid is not in, ask to leave a message and request it be delievered within the hour.

Tell them: This is not about Kerry anymore, this is about investigating and verifying the vote before it's ratified. Please stand up and challenge the vote, even though Kerry has asked the opposite.

From what my parents said, they're having a hard time getting internet access even with the wifi.

13. Even if Kerry didn't say it, what could it hurt to lobby them 1 last time?

14. that's the truth
I think it might be important to go ahead and call tomorrow morning one last time (or first time if you haven't yet) instead of just assuming it's a done deal.

That's probably the most productive response.

10. Is all of this a reference to when Al Gore asked the Senators
not to stand up for him?

11. I just don't understand why Kerry would...
encourage them to stand down. I realize I'm too tinfoily and think the worst possible scenarios of "four more years" of bushco... Is it something we can really emerge from unscathed?! I tend to accept that he and his conspirators can f*&K us up for at least a generation...

I wish Kerry felt the sense of urgency I feel...

15. The rumor itself sounds freeperish to me....
...especially considering the timing of Kerry's e-mail today. Sounds like desperation tactics too--I'd try to locate the source before going into a major panic about it.
