Kerry is catching up in New Mexico
From what I am gathering, they are still counting and John Kerry is about 3,000 votes away.

2. Of course it does
As it stands, cnn has it the way it is right now. They don't stop counting because one of the candidates steps back.

11. Yes, but they don't usually color the map before they
make the call for their projected winner.

I'm just saying that CNN called it for Bush, despite what the original poster said about Kerry being close.

13. They should all be still counting if there are votes to count.
I think everyone is so used to elections from the past. The election of 2000 showed the country that it isn't cut and dry and I think too many people have their eyes on things this year.

17. Well, I heard there were about a million uncounted votes in Florida
but nothing since.

18. That's the last I heard
It is quiet out there. Something has to be going on. And I don't feel it is just wishful thinking on my part.

6. Something doesn't look right about these numbers...
Last night, the numbers were higher for both * and Kerry than they are at present. * had about 366 thousand and Kerry around 355 thousand. The numbers have gone down. What could be the reason for that. Numbers for Nader down as well. If I didn't know any better (and I do), I would swear that they are screwing with the totals big time. Anyone else notice this change from yesterday?

10. Were you looking on the same site I linked to?
They say it is only preliminary until the votes are audited.

14. Yes I was, the link given in the initial post...
the SOS website for NM. I just read the post below, which I did not see before I posted. I have a better understanding of what is causing the numbers to change.

9. No he's not
Don't be fooled. Some sort of certification process is being done in NM that seems to involve re-calculating the vote on a precinct by precinct basis instead of county-by-county basis. Seems like what they are doing is "subtracting out" county-by-county totals and then re-calculating the vote by breaking the county up into its precincts. That's why the total keeps going up and down.

I've been watching this for awhile and had my hopes up last night. But this morning the totals were lower again and then went up and then went down and then went back up.

Given what somebody on an earlier thread reported about the SOS's office in NM, I think I finally figured out what's going on.

Too bad. But time to move on from at least this dim glimner of hope.

12. OK
You can move on. I won't start thinking about January until our election process is finished.

15. I just meant NM not the whole shebang
I'm hoping that Ohio still goes our way or that Florida. I just meant that we shouldn't count on NM falling our way through this certification process. It might. But the SOS in NM says that she expects the certified precinct by precinct totals to matche the county by county totals.

I still have some hope for other things. Just not this.

Do you realize that if Kerry had won Iowa, NM, and NV it would be a 269-269 tie? He came closer to winning these three apparently than he seems to have so far come to winning Ohio. I think his cummulative NM, NV, IA deficit is less than 40k votes

16. Sorry
I'm just hoping that at least one major flaw is found. If so, then the scrutiny will begin all over the place.
