I think the only thing that will stop this insane, corrupted government...
is a full court press march by MILLIONS on DC.

I mean, what would happen if there were so many people in DC that traffic stopped, the masses outnumbered the police and "authorities", and it got to the point that no one in the ADMIN buildings could leave? FOR DAYS?

We take our own government back and hold it hostage.

I don't see that happening, but with the GOP gutting the their own ethics rules, (and I'm sure that even IF one senator stands with Conyers on the 6th, they won't allow even two minutes, let alone two hours of debate), I'm convinced they've gone stark raving mad, and I don't know anything else that will work. I even know repubs who are so upset by their own party, they're at their wit's end, and can't believe they've sunk so low.

With the fraud, they've stripped us of our voting rights permanently, and there's not enough "lawmakers" left in DC with any integrity to fight them.

The French had no voting rights, and that is exactly where we are now, and that didn't turn out too well at the time for those in power; (note to SS - I am only pointing out HISTORICAL FACT, not condoning or suggesting violence in any way), but how much and how long do they think they can trample on and steal from the average American before something blows?

Once again: Power corrupts absolutely.

I am sure they are setting up something on the lines of an internment camp, much larger than Pier 57(?) that they used in NYC for the RNC, and had so man people bogus-ly arrested, for the protesters on Jan 20th.....

Any suggestions, thoughts?

1. Not going to happen...
People don't care until their kids are drafted. Even then, it won't happen until we take the MSM out of the hands of the right wing. People are too stupid or apathetic to care.

4. Well, it would take something as extreme as...
Banning romance novels on moral grounds. My grandma would start her own revolution.

19. yes it can!
but nothing's going to happen as long as folks keep keeping each other down.

look -- it's not about getting a MILLION people to DC, or raising the roof on anything. it's about what it takes to get thru the day.

if everyone would take the frustrated energy they keep turning on their allies, and turn it toward the power -- we'd be a lot better off and you'd probably have fun doing it.

Here's and idea: call your senator in a cartoon voice. request your senators to take a stand for democracy in your best helium voice. and record it.

we've got the power -- we are a MOVEMENT -- here's why (and how)

3. They won't give a shit.
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 07:52 PM by Cyrano
They're in total power (executive, legislative and judicial branches of government) and they don't care what anyone thinks.

We are currently living in a fascist country that is controlled by a corrupt party and demonstrations won't work. Well, let me modify that. Demonstrations will work only if they are on the scale of what Lech Walezska (sp?) led in Poland before the collapse of the Soviet empire.

But too many Americans still have their heads up their asses and will never understand that our government has been stolen by fascist pricks.

5. Would the MSM Cover it?
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 07:57 PM by Hokie
Hell, no. Rove would never allow it. He would send a fax to the MSM and that would be the end of it.

6. that could happen again sure
like you say, RNC, only in DC. It might take a while to build up to that level, though -- people knew about the RNC for what, a year? As long as SOMETHING happens on Thursday and on the 20th it'll be something to build on.

8. I've posted on this several times already. A 50 MILLION People March on DC
Would bring the federal government grinding to a halt and would have the entrenched GOP leadership desperately quaking in their boots, as it rightfully should. The March could demand Bush and Cheney's immediate and unconditional resignation from office and their indictment for war crimes, the immediate and unconditional end to the Iraqi war, an end to corporate personhood, elitist influence in government, and the completion of the 1960s Civil Rights revolution.

People coming together across race, religion, ethnicity, sexuality and nationality. That would be a real revolution. It's also Dick Cheney's, George H. W. Bush's and Karl Rove's worst nightmare.

9. ummmmm
I think you'd better find a way to 'quietly' organize. Getting an anonymous email account for starters, preferably overseas. No obvious leadership could be a life saver, if you know what I mean.

Guantanamo, Abu Graib, internment camps, and Gonzalas?

10. If a 1,000,000 come the MSM will call them 100,000. If its 10 million
they will say it was a million. The only reason the so called Million Man March got full coverage was because the right wing faction of the MSM thought it was a good way to mobilize the racist base by giving them nightmares of a race riot. Every other left wing protest in recent years has gotten downplayed in the press.

You would never have guessed from the coverage of Jan 2001 how many people were in DC to protest the first inaguaration, many of them first timers who came in small groups on buses. They outnumbered supporters. But they got almost no press.

I hope the people planning to be in DC this time have some theater planned, because it is going to take that to get media attention. I mean serious theatre as in getting Wynona Ryder to strip for Democracy, that kind of thing.

Im gonna be in New Orleans for the Jazz Funeral for Democracy. I figure it has as much chance of getting coverage as the protests in DC.

11. Biggest Deal Since Selma
http://www.freepress.org/departments/display/19/2004/1015

= = = = = = = = = =

Cowardice asks the question: Is it safe?
Expediency asks the question: Is it politic?
Vanity asks the question: Is it popular?
But conscience asks the question: Is it right?
And there comes a time one must take a position that is neither
safe, nor politic nor popular... but one must take it simply because it is right.

12. For what it is worth
I think that we might want to consider actions that will push a wedge between the various Repub fractions.
For an example, how about a letter writing campaign to the religious Fundies informing them about 'Kid Rock' performing at the youth 'ball' on 1/20.
They also might enjoy hearing that Ken Melhman, RNC chairman is a closet case. You get the idea, then we can sit back an watch them eat their own.

14. I think that's a great idea!
We should do a little investigating of our own, get the goods on their beloved right-wing nuts and, print off flyer's and hit the church parking lots during services! I know of at least two crazy churches, now that I think about it three, in my vicinity!

13. I also agree with you, but I think protesters at EVERY MSM outlet in US
would be a better goal. If THEY can't leave without going through an impenetrable wall of people, they'll get the friggin' camera's out! We are numerous, but we are spread out across a vast nation. The draft will probably bring us and the lurkers out in droves. It is coming and I am a little frightened by the prospect since I have kids who will shortly be of draft age. I flip-flop between hightailing it out of here and standing my ground to get *Co. out of office. I just don't see how we can get it accomplished though, with all the judges in this country bought and paid for by the Repukes!

Americans are FAR too comfortable.
The ONLY thing that will bring the beast down
is military mutiny, which I think is far more likely
given the abuse they have taken for so long
under their current leader.
Perhaps that is why the recruitment of foreign soldiers
and mercs is on the rise?
Much more to their advantage to have a military
that feels NO alliance to America.
Just ask Porter Goss who wants the ability to
employ foreign private mercs in the CIA.
Oh, and to allow foreign powers to transport
US military equipment (BOMBS) in and out of our ports...
Now there's a great plan, eh?
Homeland Security MY ASS.
