Roll call: If --***IF***-- Barbara stands with the Black Caucus
Edited on Mon Jan-03-05 11:27 PM by sfexpat2000
I want a list of folks who will support her, and I'll be thread keeper.

(And we should be prepared with a similar plan for ANY Dem Senator who does the same, right? Think of it as logical consequence :)

Because you know what they will try to do.

If you're willing to show support, check in please.

16. Right. Because she's going to need it. I'm in SF, and have
a little network here and in HeLLA and a few media contacts. If Barbara does this, and she should, she's gonna need real, not Hallmark.

Thanks.

23. She really has nothing to loose.
They tried real hard to unseat with Nethercutt but to no avail.

I called today and left a message at her # in WA DC. It was heartfelt ramble. I said, "This is not polical suicide, stand up, stand up, this is a historical moment. Be brave, Patty, do this for us and the future."

I am such a big cornball but DAMN if Patty doesn't do it then I'm going to start listening to those freepers. (only until my head hurts, approx. 3 minutes)

I voted for her when I lived in California. I live in WA now, but will encourage everyone I know down there to support her and to let all their friends and relatives know that she will need their vocal (and ballot) support more than ever.
She'll certainly deserve it.

OK, is that good. Now what?

Thread after thread after thread of jumping frogs, foggy crystal balls...what can that do?

She got my email, she got my call. If she got as many as there are threads asking for answers to unknowables, it might move her.

And don't expect her to post a news release about it here.

into any inviting ditch.

Notice I just asked a question and for a committment. No wild promises. There is a sober part to all of this. That's the one I want to track.

Understand your weariness. I go in and out of it. And, planning ahead is the best way to avoid the roller coasters that seem to be part n parcel of this process.

Me, I'm a flatlander.

And am willing to do this: If Barbara stands with the Black Caucus, I'm willing to rally support for her in any way I can. So.

31. I'm not wearied by the process, it's the pointless posts...
that seem to indicate folk don't recognize the PROCESS. It's a legal case. Senators and Congress-members need phone calls and emails from us and anyone we can convince to call her. Not more threads.

You asked for people to support her IF she stands with Conyers. Are you anticipating people here will turn away in disgust if she does?
And what do you mean by support. Put a yellow ribbon on my car?

Could you provide her contact info? So we can do something. There are threads listing positive things we can be doing. But they're hard to find lost in thread's not unlike this one. We have to constantly kick them past all the trash.

I apologize for my annoyed tone. (Can you imagine the folks that think Vote Fraud is a dead issue.) But for every thread accomplishing something, there seems to be twenty where the premise is 'we're doin' something', but really aren't.

Post Boxers info. The people who took time to read your original post deserve that. So, I believe, does your aim.

Once someone does the thing we want, people tend to go to the next problem.

I'll be back. No apologies necessary. I do, for not being thorough enough.

39. And, lol, I think most of us are very unfamiliar with the process.
When I began the thread, I was thinking in very concrete terms that didn't get into words in English.

I don't want to follow any more threads into the ether either.

I was thinking, I want to be ready if Barbara does this. Being ready means, organizing people here locally and also, nationally, to do a supportive round of the usual

And thinking, too, that any Senator that finds a way to do the obvious needs to have the same support, so this is a template.

And also thinking, if we can communicate our understanding of the risk, the risk is more likely to happen.

No illusions here about pinky-swearing, don't have time, patience, energy for it. Maybe somewhat incoherant after weeks of this sh@t, and of looking forward to many more weeks more, as needed.

Does that answer your question?

47. Thanks. I'm getting there.
Define "do a supportive round of the usual" for neophytes (like me).

Spell out the risk (or don't, maybe you are saying it shouldn't be broadcast!).

What's pinky-swearing? (I'm really a neophyte, eh?)

The whole thing, worked up, would make a great thread. A "here's what has to be done" primer.

And you're right. Many more weeks.

btw - Kerry Won :)

68. From one neophyte to another
Supportive round: Exactly what we've been doing. Talking to everyone, with facts in hand and good communication skills. Emailing, writing, faxing to elicit support, public displays of support, flooding the brave senator's office with pledges of our commitment.

Risks, as I see them: Being attacked in the press and behind the scenes by the minions of this criminal regime. Being turned on by one's own party. Being turned on by one's ill-informed constituency. (Sounds a lot like being a parent, doesn't it?)

"Pinky swear" I think originated in the 40s. Two kids would hook their little fingers and make an oath.

(Boy, I'm 'way more obtuse than I knew!)

Kerry did win, of course.:toast:

You seem to be more of an organizer than I am. Hmm. Feel free to rework this into a more coherent form!

41. Man, I'm in trouble for not being specific enough, but I meant,
full out support. Oraganized here locally in CA where she needs votes, nationally where she will need PR.

Here in SF, I know I can get her a LOT of support. In the rest of CA, I can probably muster the needed amount. But there's a funny way in which the national opinion figures into our local scene. Not saying this well.

As in, we here locally go to her office or call or email and thank her. As in, you all in the 'way out There write to your reps and local news outlets in support.

(And we could organize an Opera: Barbara!)

lol

In any case, IF she goes forward, I'll put together another thread, mindful of the questions you all have put out. Thanks, Beth

Even though we need to be prepared in some way, no matter what happens, it seems important that we be especially prepared to support our vocal friends.

Because there is so much pressure on them to be silent.

I've never seen a situation like this, and my first campaign was the Kennedy one, when I got to suck on the leftover campaign lit.

But, let's be fully prepared to support any Senator who speaks out. Let's not get caught flatfooted. We can do so much better than that. And if you think about it, this is a vast game of "chicken". It's not such a dangerous game if the people that we ask to put their career on the line know they have some kind of a net beneath them. (That would be US.)

For a very long time, we've had this understanding that better heads than ours were "in charge" somehow. Well, there may well be better heads but they're all looking to us for direction, to lead the charge.

The Party can't lead the charge. The Party tries to survive. And to listen.

If we speak up, we can speak to the listeners. We do that <g>.

57. I am unclear --
What it means. Is there something those of us on the east coast can do?

I have another question. What are they afraid of? I know they think they'll lose their seats. But that seems nuts to me, because we would be absolutely insanely supportive of those that stand up. How could it hurt them? They'd become heroes, for C's sake.

But I'll do what I'm asked to do.

64. CALL BOXER'S OFFICE NOW - SHE"S GETTING A LOT OF CALLS -
I'm part of the nationwide effort to generate a million calls to congress and the senate on opposing the Ohio electors.

Just spoke to Boxer's LA office (213) 894 5000 to a very polite person who said they've been getting a "good number" of calls on this completely underground, grassroots issue. KEEP THE PRESSURE ON!

She may do it.

Also called Kerry's office and play to call Byrd and Feinstein (I'm in CA)

1800 839 5276 for any Senator's number
or 1 877 762 8762 for any congressman

Multiply by getting others to call as well - it's quick and pleasant and nothing could be more important.

peace

69. I just called Barbara Boxer's office too...
...but I kept it short and sweet because the aide who answered the phone seemed pretty busy! So I basically just told her what I was calling about and left it at that. I also said, "I understand you're getting a lot of calls about this." She said that was true and told me she's keeping a list of the number of callers. I think my call had a bit of added clout since I'm a California resident, which I also mentioned when she asked me where I was calling from.

now because the calls are being carefully tallied in the Los Angeles office. (213) 894-5000

74. Call Barbara at this office (L.A.) (213) 894-5000 if you can.
They're monitoring the calls carefully.
