Edited on Sat Jan-01-05 03:47 PM by KaliTracy
I want to put together a flier abou the 3rd and the 6th juxaposing this --

Bush Rally in West Chester (which did NOT have lines (or very few)).... to the Democratic areas who actually waited in line...

kind of a spur of the momeent idea -- tell me if it stinks.

On edit -- this picture came from a Tucson paper -- good article.

5. OH man!!!!
thats nuts! absolutely insane. To freaking vote? damn i wouldn't wait for concert tickets on a line like that. i wouldn't wait for anything on a line like that. its why i dont go to places like 6 flags. wait in line for an hour for a 6 minute ride!

this is unacceptable and Blackwell should be fired. but no we shall do the same next time and make him the mayor. i give up - if we do not win this time. we have lost democracy. its over.

i am freaking out. sorry guys. man libs are emotional.

2. I think those images of the long lines are the most moving of the whole
debacle. I remember crying on election night seeing those people still in line way after dark, while Rove was fixing the vote. Dan Rather looked like he was going to cry too.

The only thing that bugs me about the image above is that it looks too much like a throng of ardent Bush supporters. From what I heard from a photographer who tried to go to a Bush rally in Ohio, it was so staged that he said they may as well have used a studio.
BTW, he was so intimidated by the SS when he tried to get in using his press pass that he got in his truck and drove all the way back to California w/o even attending the Kerry rally. They said they could just make him disappear. He was very shaken by the event.

10. Compare and Contrast
Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin'.
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drummin'.
Four dead in Ohio.

Gotta get down to it.
Soldiers are gunning us down.
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her and
Found her dead on the ground?
How can you run when you know?

Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.

Gotta get down to it.
Soldiers are cutting us down.
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her and
Found her dead on the ground?
How can you run when you know?

Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin'.
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drummin'.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.

11. The reason the images have no impact...
is that most people around the country had to wait in lines.

And the long lines are usually in big cities.

15. i posit that most people did not wait for 2-4 hours. did you?
Edited on Sun Jan-02-05 05:29 PM by KaliTracy
My wait was NUL -- at 7:45 am. When I drove past our poll place at 6:30 pm- it was Dead -- just a few cars. West Chester, Ohio is where I live -- in a straight 1 to 2 mile stretch there were at least 23 machines for this suburb.

library (estimate 2)
quarter mile down htree buildings side by side

a school (estimate 2)
a church (my place 5 -- could have been 7 but I'm not sure)
a school (estimate 2)

a mile down another church (MIL voted there)
2 sets of 6

total: at least 23.

edit to add state

22. No I live in Oregon
I had TWO weeks to vote at home from the time of getting my ballot in the mail in October.

Two weeks. No lines. No waiting. A stamp or a short drive/walk to the library/county office/drop off site by November 2nd at 8PM and my vote would be counted.

I have small children. I have no one else to watch them. I have to pick them up from pre-school-one had pre-school that day. I could not stand in line for more than probably two hours(maximum) to vote. Which means, I guess, if I lived in a city in Ohio, I wouldn't have voted.

Oh wait I would have voted provisionally-I guess-are those COUNTED?

Oh wait I'm white so I guess that means I would live in a white area where they had enough machines to vote and I wouldn't be expected to wait in the rain for hours with children under the age of five just so I could vote.

I treasure my right to vote and I always have. IT means so much to me.

And I'm pissed as hell that what state you live and the color of your skin are what determine how much you have to sacrifice and just hope you can get your vote out or counted.

23 machines in the suburbs of Ohio? I read that some urban areas only had two or three!

27. estimate -- haven't gotten numbers. and it's only one 1-2 mile strip
Edited on Mon Jan-03-05 11:12 PM by KaliTracy
there were polling places all through West Chester, Ohio (Butler county)..

I was pissed as hell, too when I woke up on the 3rd listening to the problems that they had in Columbus and Cleveland. Wrote "democratic" BOE in Hamilton county (actually, all of them in a 60 mile radius, he was the only one that responded). He told me it wasn't a partisan issue because Mason (Warren County) had long lines, too (I've heard 45 minutes to an hour, could have been more) -- and lest we forget, Warren County is Home of the famous Level 10 Lockdown!

The pix in the Original Post was a few days (or weeks?) before the election, here in West Chester. 50,000 people came to see Bush. They weren't all from here -- I'm sure people from Dayton and Cincinnati showed up, too....

This is part of a letter I've been sending out to media and other places...

"People were disenfranchised in Ohio, which is, as I understand it, against the law. We are supposed to have fair and equitable elections, and this did not happen in Ohio. Kenneth Blackwell was on watch when this occurred. I was angry before, just knowing of people who stood out in the rain for hours, but I am angrier now that I’ve found the following information (see below http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=203&topic_id=209744&mesg_id=209744). You see, [b>it wasn’t just this year that precincts were merged or deleted -- it's just this year that the excuse of getting ready for e-vote machines was made for this occurrence. Since Mr. Blackwell has been Secretary of State in 1998, there have been over 1,769 precincts lost, while we have gained 878,427 new voters.

From 1980 to 1996 Presidential Elections there has been an average of 72.86% voter turnout (with 1996 being under 70%). From 2000, to 2004 there has been an average of 67.75% voter turnout, with 2000 being closer to 60% than the average 70% for elections in the last 20 years. People stood in lines for HOURS in this 2004 election and yet we only had 71% reporting? Does that make any sense? For weeks prior to the election the media was warning us about“long lines.” Why? Why is it that machines that were supposed to be distributed in Franklin county never made it? Why is it that more Democratic areas were Merged than Republican? (On one 1-2 mile strip in my neighborhood in West Chester, I estimated at least 23 machines.) What was the voter to machine ratio in suburbs such as mine compared to the areas that had problems?

These issues must be addressed. I, and thousands of other Ohioans, are waiting."

the longest lines were in Democratic areas - there was a systematic effort to suppress the votes there.
