If you want to know how Bush won, see this movie NOW.

No, not Fahrenheit 9/11 or Outfoxed or any other political film. If you want to see a terrifying portrait of the Bush voting base, I recommend renting this documentary:

"Hell House" -- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0301235/

I watched this documentary a couple weeks before the election, and my immediate thought was "holy shit, these people are insane -- and they vote." It's a documentary about an evangelical church in Texas that puts on an annual Halloween haunted house that is designed to convert heathens by showing them that they will go to hell if they are gay, have sex outside of wedlock, get an abortion, go dancing, take drugs, question authority, what have you. They actually show a gay man lying in his hospice bed with their narrator figure (a "grim reaper" type) cackling in glee because the guy is dying of AIDS and is going to hell instead of heaven.

The thing is, this documentary shows the lifestyle of the members of this church, and it was more frightening than the haunted house. The kids attend the church school 5 days a week (instead of public school), and when the teenagers go out on dates, instead of going to the movies or seeing a band, they go listen to their preacher preach "youth sermons" or participate in church activities which include speaking in tongues and breaking down in tears and wailing. The parents participate in church activities after work and on weekends rather than socialize with outsiders / heathens / liberals. They are 100% focussed on converting others to their cause. And Rove knows how to get these confused, irrational zealots to vote. I felt sorry for the teens in the movie, who go to church six days a week (five school plus Sunday plus afterschool socializing) and listen to hate and rapture talk and how everyone with a different lifestyle than theirs is hated by god and going to hell.

Scary shit, people. Something to consider if you think the Democrats can get anywhere by moving farther to the right. You have to move WAY over to the right to get on these peoples' good side.

2. The filmmaker was on CNN this weekend--he believes we're going
through a religious revival in the world right now--heard that before, and he's probably right. If so, pretty damn scary to think what's to come.

And my two cents--these people are no better than the terrorists we are supposedly fighting.

3. I doubt if any DU'er even wants to venture...
...over to "their side".
I've met these kind of folks and believe me...they're from some other planet. They are truly unreachable...

4. You can listen to a Real Audio excerpt of the film here:

They played part of the movie on the NPR show "This American Life," but it doesn't really go into the lifestyle of the church members as much of the film.

Here's the Real Audio link:

7. From a Texan...
I live in Texas... and we definitely have a few of those types here, but mainly it's a different type of person here. Here, it's the everyday joe, the businessman, the lady down the street, etc. The look normal. They have normal jobs. They have normal lives. BUT if anything is perceived as "change" or "different" from what they consider the norm, it is immediately shunned and stomped into the ground in the name of God.

To shed a little light on the ignorance and intolerance of the general public here, read this short little article about some art being defaced here in the name of God. http://lubbockonline.com/stories/081404/loc_0814040038.shtml

10. That may be a factor.
He may have stolen the election, I dunno (I agree those machines need to go), but the fact remains that there are millions of people out there who really do support the agenda of these fascists, and we need to realize what we're up against.
