URGENT Request for HELP in Ohio.
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 12:25 PM by God_bush_n_cheney
Barbara Boxer has agreed in principal to challenge the electords from Ohio if she can get some support from the Ohio democratic congressional delegation. Apparently they have been strangly silent on this issue. We need to get those emails and fax machines wound up and let the reps in Ohio you will support them if they step out onto this ledge. I know it is Christmas and we all have other things to do...but this is a good shot of throwing a monkey wrench into GW's inaguration plans. At the very least this will take the man out of his mandate.

Go after it DU and spread the word to everyone you know. We can do this...lets show the Ohio delegation that they will not be alone if they show the gumption to do this.

Andy

Wasserman appeared on Democracy Now today, and stated that Boxer WILL NOT challenge.

Just heard the same thing from Thom Hartmann who says he was in a conference call today with Fitrakis, J Jackson Jr. and others.

Who's telling the real facts here?

they would be challenging themselves out of a job. That is why they are silent. If OH electoral votes get thrown out, OH loses their representation in Congress has well. At least that's what I heard.

The two are totally separate. Why aren't the Ohio Senators against this slate? If enough people in Ohio voted for Kerry then they should at least bring up the debate over whether the slate is legit.

72. Both Ohio Senators are Republican.
They are Mike DeWine (Class 1) and George Voinovich (Class 3).

It's probably a bit too much to expect them
to object to the Republican slate, unless there
were absolute proof of fraud.

28. Here's the letter I wrote to my Ohio rep, sen... feel free to crib
Hi all: I wrote to my (Republican) rep and senator the other day. If you'd like you can rip off or adapt some of my text (if you think it's appropriate and like the way it's written). Note that I say that "conclusive evidence of machine fraud has yet to come to light" in order to sound more moderate... also, according to Will Pitt, that conclusive evidence may in fact come to light seemingly momentarily. So, anyway, FWIW:

Although conclusive evidence for machine tampering of the vote has yet to come to light, there is overwhelming evidence of major civil rights violations and disenfranchisement during the conduct of the Ohio November 2, 2004 election. I urge you to read the letters between U.S. Rep. John Conyers, Jr. and Ohio's Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell regarding the election.

Then I personally plead with you to examine Mr. Blackwell's actions before, on, and after November 2, which demonstrate a pattern of, yes, I'll say it, purposeful disenfranchisement of African Americans in Ohio. From taking every step possible to block new registrations (from either African American or white Democrats) before the election, to the distribution of voting machines on election day, to the deliberate obstruction of further investigation since November 2, Mr. Blackwell has proven that it is possible for an African American to engage in racist activity.

Mr. Blackwell has seen fit to interpret Ohio law according to his own whims ever since he took office, but the effect has been to undermine America's faith in the electoral system, and, more importantly, put American democracy in jeopardy. At the very least, I would hope that you would help convince Ohio that this man should be removed from office.

But there is a greater question before you than simply one man's misconduct. As an Ohio citizen, I am most familiar with the travails of our state, but Florida, New Mexico, Nevada, Washington, and North Carolina also show signs of similar misconduct, disenfranchisement, and outright fraud. I ask you, how can you in good conscience NOT contest an election that is so clearly tainted?

Please remember that the eyes of the world are upon us, and please, please, do the right thing.

Sincerely,

XXXXX

38. Appeal to the suppression/disenfranchisement issue...
Will Pitt says that our senators were influenced by that opening scene in 9/11 and are afraid of a repeat. Let's appeal to our senators and the Ohio congressman along these lines, and remind them of why these election issues are so important.

Here's some information to support calls and letters on these issues!

Video of African American voter suppression and disenfranchisement:

45. Please re-title
Your Thread should be something like "Ohio residents need to email their Reps". I would really like to email these low-liers or slackers or whatever they are, but I'm not an Ohio resident, and I don't really want to manufacture 'information' in order to be allowed to post them an email. Currently your thread title sounds like something on the ground, demanding a certain level of commitment. This is a request that any armchair activist in Ohio can comply with, pronto.

When I try to send email to any of these people, it always asks me for my address etc, and if I put my actual address, I get a re-direct to find my own reps. It seems that I can write snail mail to the post office addresses, and that's worth-while as you say since it is in the national interest.

59. That is why faxes are so much more fun - you can do them from
your computer, just like an email, you send them to the phone numbers and they have paper that they must do something with, generally they read it. (emails get to out of hand, they just are ignored). That is also what is fun about voice mail, they can't ignore all calls and wipe them out, they have to listen to all calls to make sure they don't miss any.

Don't just settle for emails - take action to be heard any and every way you can. (I prefer faxes - a stack of faxes a mile long is ready docmentation the receiver can use to illustrate the demand! Emails the recipent has to print them, an unnecessary and time consuming step (for some).

67. How do you do that again?
I saw in some long-gone thread that it is possible to FAX from your computer. If you know, can you repeat what you need in order to do that?

69. Check your settings
Try to print a document, if it gives you a "fax" option as well as the option to print to a particular printer, then you have the needed software. Instead of printing, chose fax and the screens should walk you through it. If you don't have the software, post a query in GD or the Lounge and ask if anyone knows where you can get a download.

Good luck!

53. Andy
You left off Tim Ryan. We have 6 Reps in Ohio.

I have personal connections with each of the 6 House Members. I've just placed calls to each of them asking for a brief conversation. Usually when I do this, Sherrod Brown or Marcy Kaptur calls me back. I'll see to it that the message is delivered.

But one thing I should point out is that the Members have not been avoiding or ignoring this. They are actually running the show in many aspects....they just haven't been doing it in front of the cameras. Trust me on that. Marcy Kaptur has discussed their plans with me twice.

55. GREAT
I was asked to do this by someone on the front lines...that does not have the connections that you have. She is an Ohio citizen and is very grateful for anyhelp you can offer. If you have my phone number and want to talk...please call me.

If you don't have it pm me and i will get it to you.

Andy

60. Don't worry about it...
...for today at least.

I do want your number for future reference, but I won't be much to talk to today. 8 inches of snow plus a 6-year-old home from school equals snowforts and sled-riding. She doesn't buy the "daddy needs to help democracy so he can't play with you today" argument.

Marcy will call back, and I will deliver said message. I'll ask her to pass along the same to the rest of the Delegation.

Knowing all 6 Members, I can say without hesitation that all of them will be on board for this. And to give you some insight into their passion for politics and doing the right thing, the weakest of the bunch is Kucinich. I'm NOT saying he's weak....but just imagine how strong the other 5 must be. That's my point.

62. I am here in Ohio
so I know all about the snow. This is more snow than I have ever seen fall in my life. I was on the road 5 hours yeaterday coming from Cincinatti. It was 20 mph all the way. I also saw 35 cars in the ditch...that was a record as well. Don't you people know how to drive in the snow?

66. Do you mean not to worry about trying to contact folks
or about Andy and you making contact?

I realize it is a snow day, that is why I recommend faxes. It is always so much fun to come into the office with the paper in the fax machine used up and faxes spewed across the floor. It makes quite an impression and gives the purpose such urgency and passion!

Enjoy the snow - I wouldn't buy the daddy has to save democracy either!

63. Has Anyone Talked to John Glen or Gerold Ford???
I'm talking about moral support. Obviously they are no longer in office but they are both Ohioans and they are world famous.

Didn't Ford and Jimmy Carter head a blue ribbon panel on elections some years ago? Were their recommendations implemented? If not, then perhaps they can both be brought on board. I'm sure Jimmy will be amenable and he might be able to convince Jerry.

We do need some Republicans to step forward!

75. Whoops! Sorry! He was never an astronaut either.
But he and Carter were honorary co-chairs of the National Commission on Federal Election Reform. This led to HAVA, which of course now needs to be reformed, but at least they gave it a shot. If either or both can be convinced of the problems in Ohio, they might lend a hand somehow.

And God's Speed John Glen!

76. They were replaced so all electoral votes were counted but
why didn't they show up. Was it a protest?

Since the people of the state actually vote for the electors for president, I was thinking that these two might want to testify or something. Unless they just had the election fraud flu!
