all liberals. The property there is so expensive, nobody can afford to live there unless the government is taking care of them.

I was really offended. This was in our a.m. sales meeting. My nerves were raw from the night before and knowing Kerry would have to concede before the day was over.

I live in SW Mo., by the way. My boss had recently been in Boston and New York, and was talking about how high the real estate is. He said surely people there made more money to compensate for the expensive living quarters. Then he said, "no, they don't. So how do they do it?"

I mentioned that I didn't know, but I knew they had rent control in some of the places there, and that there were subsidies, I had heard. (Although I was talking out my ass, because I really don't know.)

That is when he made the comment about liberals. I got up and took my coffee and my notepad and said. "Sorry, I have to go."

Period. I know somebody who used to be a clerk at a Manhattan library. He made almost $20 an hour. My clerical work in Ohio paid $7-$9. His apartment was four times what mine was. Your boss can do the math, if he likes -- same goes for L.A. and Chicago. That's how they afford it -- everything is at least marginally more expensive, and everybody makes somewhat more to offset it.

Recently, my company did some "reorganizing", and I got a new regional director in the process. I feel like I'm living in some bad work version of "wife swap", but instead it's "boss swap".

Ironically, my new boss likes to rule by fear and authority, so it's no wonder he's republican.

I hate to kiss 15 years with one company away, but he's been with the company for 27 years, so I don't think he's going anywhere soon.

8. The broker part of your boss, to say the least,

is not very astute. But I'm sure you know this.

As a broker, he should be able to figure out, for example,that someone selling more expensive real estate, lets say an $800,000 house, will make more money than someone selling that same house for $200,000 where you live.

Sounds like the typical big fish in a small pond type. He'd last 2 days in the big city before running back home to mommy.

salaries are pretty commensurate with th higher cost of living in big cities, especially NY, though of course it is very hard to make it on a small income. But to assume anyone who is struggling is either getting government handouts or wants to is about as stupid as it gets. New Yorkers generally live in the outer lying areas (the boroughs of Manhattan, move to NJ or the suburbs) and commute to Manhattan to work.

I'm a native New Yorker living across the river in Hoboken, NJ because the cost of living is somewhat less, it's very close to Manhattan and the boroughs, and we like it a lot.

Don't let him get to you too much, though I'm sorry you have to work for such a jackass,
