Corvallis Gazette-Times OPINION Letters: Reds and blues, unite for a changeI am a registered Independent who is sick of politics. I don't like the far left and I don't the far right. I have found the far left to be about the most intolerant people out there, although they loudly shout the opposite. They scream about human rights of foreigners and turn a blind eye to similar local problems.
I have found some on the far right who shout about moral values and think abortion is atrocious to be hateful souls without detectable values or respect for any life other than before its born.
In between the poles, I have met lefters and righters whom I think are wonderful people.
I will say this in regard to Corvallis being referred to as a "pimple": Corvallis is a beautiful city.
One person I met (a "red" herself) called Lebanon the "armpit of Oregon." Why is it that "red" cities, such as Lebanon, are hell-pits of drug abuse, illiteracy, junk-piled ugly properties, crime and violence? Reds can claim it is because blues have stolen their livelihoods, but reds also want little government intervention and believe in taking care of their own problems. They supposedly have moral Biblical values, such as treating others as they themselves want treated and behaving like good Samaritans...link: http://www.gazettetimes.com/articles/2004/12/21/news/opinion/2lets1221.txt
