What Southern/Mid-West Democratic Governors Are Available?
Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 10:03 PM by The Nation
I've heard Gov. Mike Easley of North Carholina, Mark Warner of Virginia tossed around as possibilities for 2008.

What others are there?

5. He'd be particularly good...
Given the EXTREMELY dire straits of Virginia's fiscal situation when he took office, and the fact that he (like Clinton through most of his presidency) had a solid Repub majority in both houses of the General Assembly to deal with. Despite those handicaps, he's restored fiscal discipline, and given Virginia a fighting chance to recruit new industry to economically-depressed areas. My wife's aunt and uncle in Arlington--both lifelong Repubs who voted for Kerry this time--swear by Warner, and say they wish he wasn't limited to just one term. I hear he's focused--up to this point--on running against George Allen, Jr. for the Senate in 2006. That was BEFORE yesterday, of course!:eyes:

B-)

9. "Mark not John" -- remember Wilder did the same.

The new mayor of Richmond, Doug Wilder, served as governor from 1989-1993 and did the same thing Warner did but with a DEM state legislature. Things were really rough then and he got VA through without sacrificing much of the progress made in the 1980's. Hey, how about Warner-Wilder. If people don't like that, fuck 'em. Virginia outlined the nations individual rights and insisted that they be incorporated into the constitution (didn't go far enough for many of the Virginians like Mason), why should'nt Virginia save the country's ass again.

Corporate America controls the media and we get manufactured news.
Corporate America now controls the voting machines and we get manufactured elections.

3. Joe Kernan - Indiana
Former Vietnam POW, great guy, did a good job as Lt. Governor and smoothly took over for Frank O'Bannon when he died.

4. All good choices...
Also, Tom Vilsack of Iowa (rumored as a possible Kerry VP pick).

10. And to add more
I've actually been pretty impressed with Doyle from afar. He told the Republican legislature where they could shove their anti-gay marrage bill and has implemented some creative programs to get Wisconsinites the prescription drugs they need.
